Will Arsenal regret Oxlade-Chamberlain’s lack of first team action?

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain is enjoying his best season in an Arsenal shirt, but still remains in-and-out of Arsene Wenger’s first-team plans. The former Southampton youth product has one year left on his current contract with our club, and Liverpool are linked with a strong interest in signing him.

We are playing a dangerous game with the futures of a number of players, with no new deals having been agreed for Mesut Ozil, Jack Wilshere, Alexis Sanchez and Aaron Ramsey all joining the Ox with only a year remaining.

Ramsey praised his fellow midfield star this week, and I can’t help but get increasingly worried about our chances of keeping Chamberlain as time goes by…

“Chambo has had a good season, it’s been his best scoring-wise, and he’s played in a few positions,” Ramsey said.

“Chambo is a big threat going forward, he’s very explosive and quick off the mark, he can go past players with ease and his final ball in has been very good – he’s had quite a few assists this year.

“He seems to have really kicked on this year, so he’s only going to get better and better.”

The Ox has played in range of positions this term, including as a right-back, right wing-back, central midfielder and attacking midfielder, and has thoroughly impressed in each of those positions.

Chamberlain spent the majority of his previous campaigns as a winger, but is now believed to be destined to hold down a central midfield berth in the near future.

He is currently sidelined with injury, but Hector Bellerin will likely hold on to his position at wing-back, and Granit Xhaka and Aaron Ramsey are flourishing in our new 3-4-2-1 system, and the Ox may well believe that he could be falling behind in the pecking order once again, a prospect which may make his consider his future, especially with just 12 months left on his current contract.

Is Chamberlain finally meeting his full potential? Does he deserve to be a regular in the first-team? Do you think he is likely to leave the club?

  1. I think Wenger has always trusted ox. But he can’t seem to play 5 games in a row without breaking down. Its so sad really, cause with a run of games he would go to the next level.

  2. If reports are to be believed, Wenger has dropped Cech in favour of Ospina!

    WTF is that all about???

  3. OT.. who remembers Ray Parlour cutting inside and drilling one into the top corner? 2002 glory days! There was a few pint glasses smashed when that one flew in. Lets repeat that tomorrow. COYG

  4. Holding, Xhaka, Monreal, Ramsey, Cech, Alexis and Ox have been performing very well since moving to 3-4-3 system.
Szczesny and Kolasinac will challenge Cech and Monreal for their place. Ox and Bellerin fighting for same position will be good too. Hopefully we can improve the squad by signing a quality striker and CM which has been our weak link because all our CM have been a failure this season without injured Cazorla. Ramsey, Wilshere, Coq and Elneny have been failures.
Upfront we have been lacking top striker since V.Persie. Giroud, Theo, Welbeck and Perez have been poor and not good enough. I would also add another CB and another midfielder/winger but knowing Wenger it is unlikely?

  5. Why do you think Bellerin will hold onto the position? Anyone who has seen Bellerin and Ox in wingback positions know Ox has been the standout so far. Bellerin has been poor this season, and finding a tiny bit of form towards the end doesn’t mask over what a let down he has been. Same with Ramsey, same with Xhaka. Ox has actually been one of the few consistent players this season. If he leaves, it won’t be because of a lack of action.

  6. Chambo had a good 2 months and now Ramsey had a good month. It’s not enough to convince someone they are good.

  7. What will happen after FA cup final?
Arsenal will lose the FA cup final.
Then next week Wenger will sign 2 new contract after fake board meeting.
Wenger will sell Alexis after he refuses to sign contract.
We will sign Kolasinac and Onyekuru.
He will waste 2 months trying to find Alexis replacement but cannot find the top player.
Season starts we lose opening games and couple of players get long term injury.
Wenger will then start bidding for players like Messi, Ronaldo, Griezmann but will end up with Deeney on deadline day?????????????????

    1. Who do you think is going to be the summer-long transfer saga that we never sign? The Higuain ones never disappoint. Neither do the Benzema ones. We’ll probably see Benzema one resurface once again. Does Wenger pay them to pretend they come to Arsenal? ?
