Will Arsenal really let Giroud leave in January?

We are well aware that Olivier Giroud has been told to leave Arsenal for regular first team football if he wants to retain his place in the France national side this summer at the World Cup, and the latest rumours are that he would like to go on loan to another London club.

Alexandre Lacazette, Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez are going to be the starting front line this season as long as they are all fit, and with Danny Welbeck, Theo Walcott and Alex Iwobi also fit again and back in contention, Wenger is not short on options up front and may believe that he could cope without our supersubs firepower off the bench.

But can you really see Le Prof allow him to join one of our local rivals just to give Giroud a chance to get to the World Cup? I cannot see that happening, especially as Wenger said just last week. ‘I want to keep the squad. We qualified now for the Europa League and that means we do not want to reduce the squad. We have the League Cup, still we are in it.

‘The FA Cup still to come, the Europa League to come, we have the Premier League where we have a big fight to be in the top four. You do not want to become weaker.

‘I have to consider the interest of the player but dominant of that will be the interests of the club and if you can combine the two it is even better but first is what is important for the club.

‘They have to make their decisions, I have to make mine. I cannot consider too much the interest of the national team.’

So I think we can forget about these unsettling rumours. Giroud gave up his chance to join Everton last summer so will be fully prepared to stay at the Emirates for the whole of the campaign, whether he plays for France or not. He can’t just change his mind 4 months later!

  1. Just like every international player, Giroud needs to play regularly to get into the French National Team…

He would be useful against certain opponents but unfortunately we are unable to keep him as this is not Fifa 18

  2. I don’t think Arsenal would let Giroud leave now. And I think Deschamps would still bring Giroud to the World Cup, because Giroud has contributed a lot during the qualification and Giroud offers different strengths than the other French strikers.

France would need Giroud, because they might have difficulties in scoring against very defensive opponents with their small and agile attackers alone. In such situations, which often takes place in a big tournament, a tall target man will come in handy.

  3. With Wenger you never know. He let Song and Vermaelen go to Barcelona. Wenger may think that we got Lacazette, Welbeck, Akpom so we can make some money on Giroud to please Papa Kroenke

  4. You never know becuase Wenger dosen’t have logical reason for selling players! If it possible to sell himself to another club in transfer window for making more profits, he would be do that ?? jk ?
