Wilshere future uncertain – No Arsenal or Bournemouth offer

Jack Wilshere’s future remains uncertain with only 18 months remaining on his Arsenal deal, and no offer to extend it, or to join Bournemouth.

The 26 year-old joined the Cherries on deadline day back in August and has found an upturn in fortunes since leaving North-London.

Wilshere has failed to remain fit for much of his recent years with the Gunners, but has now remained fit since joining Bournemouth, as well as building up his stamina and strength to be able to play the full 90 minutes in 13 fixtures this season, something he has only managed once since the 2014-15 campaign with AFC.

The report stated that despite his importance to the Cherries first-team this term, he is yet to be offered the chance to join the club this summer, before quoting the player himself in stating that he had not been made aware of any such offer to extend his Arsenal contract either.

“My main focus at the minute is on playing for Bournemouth, getting them out of the position they’re in and back to winning ways,” he said.

“I’m concentrating on the next three or four months and then I’m not sure what’s going to happen.”

When asked if Arsenal had offered a him a new contract, Wilshere said: “I leave that to my agent.

“I’m just concentrating on maintaining my fitness, playing games and I’m enjoying it. As long as I’m here I’m going to enjoy it and help Bournemouth.”

He added: “At the end of the season, when we see what I’ve done at Bournemouth, I’ll have a couple of weeks off on holiday and then think about it.”

We could most certainly do with him in our squad at present, with a number of stars absent, while new signing Granit Xhaka has proven to be a liability when he is available.

Does Wilshere deserve to return to our first-team next season? Do we think Wenger’s future is the reason why Jack hasn’t been offered an extension yet?

  1. If Özil doesn’t extend and decides to leave Wilshere can be a great solution in that #10 role and will get to keep his jersey number.
On a more serious note if he manages (which looks likely) to stay healthy and keep progressing with his feel for the game, fitness levels, game speed and finding back his full ability we can expect good things from him next season.
All he wants is minutes and at this stage of his career that is what he should be looking for. Also will have to wonder how did Bournemouth maintained his fitness over the course of the season and made sure he never suffered another season ending injury
