Would Man United really sell Martial to Arsenal?

There are many reports this morning saying that Arsenal are close to giving up on signing the 100 million+ striker Kylian Mbappe, and have decided to move on to try and get the out-of-favour Anthony Martial from Manchester United for £40million.

Everyone knows the rivalry between Wenger and Jose Mourinho, but there is a certainty that The Special One will be looking to make more squad changes from last season’s team to try and make a bigger impact in the race for the Premier League title and an assault on the Champions League.

This will incur even more expense on United’s finances, and to raise funds Mourinho will have to unload his peripheral players and Martial is one of the likeliest to be on Jose’s exit list, so he may have little choice but to accept Wenger’s best offer.

Many Arsenal fans have never forgiven Wenger for selling Robin Van Persie to Man United and basically handing them the League title in the last year of Alex Ferguson’s reign, and the only player to move between the sides since then has been the arrival at the Emirates of Danny Welbeck, who has hardly set the League on fire since his arrival.

So do Arsenal fans even want us to buy yet another United reject, who may or may not be a success. And would Mourinho even condone selling to Wenger in the first place? I think not….

    1. Like Welbeck’s transfer, Manchester United could sell Martial to Arsenal, since he cannot compete with Rashford and Ibrahimovic (previously). I hope Arsenal will not be interested in him, because he will not improve Arsenal if he cannot even compete with a junior striker and an old striker.

Martial and Mbappe are Monaco’s products, Martial also looked very talented and promising in the beginning, before Rashford emerged. They have similar statures and playing styles, which turned out not suitable for Manchester United’s playing style.

Rather than gambling on him, Arsenal should try their best to get Aubameyang or Lewandowski.

  1. I reckon that Martial would progress well at Arsenal but there’s no way that Mo would sell to Wenger.
Plus the £40 million valuation seems abit low, considering they paid around £60 million including add on’s for him.

We’ll more than likely hear that Lacazette is confirmed as a Gooner by the middle of next week. (Wednesday)

    1. you honestly beleive we will confirm Lacaette next week wednesday? I admire your optimism.

  2. I wouldn’t want him here. He’s one of these quick athletic players with no bite and no real knack for the final third, other than being quick and tricky with dribbling I see no reason to want to sign him. If we do sell Walcott Giroud Coqueling, I’d prefer a project type player that looks more of a guarantee. Like Leon Goretzka, before Bayern come in and offer him a certain amount of game-time we should tell him the same as what we told Mbappe, he will grow here and be one of our starting CM players. If we go back to our old formation, which we will so to give game time fairly, we’ll need a guy like Goretzka next to Xhaka so to make up for Ozils deficiencies.

  3. SkyBet have now made Arsenal 4/5 favourites to sign Lemar from Monaco.
Arsenal have jumped ahead of the spuds who were priced as 5/2 favourites last week, but a late flurry of bets have seen Arsenal’s price being backed from 4/1 down to 4/5. That’s a good sign to those that understand ?

      1. Jeez, ?? my 4 year old nephew asks less questions than you do. ?

  4. You don`t need einstein to tell you maureen would definetely not want to strengthen our striking force (one of our weakest departments since our strikers are not on par sanogo being in our squad once upon a time says it all really) martial has potential and has proven his qualities in the bpl but a move to a rival which may be challenging for the title isnt want jose is know for unlike wenger, just targets that will hit the floor running and will depart with the right transfer fee.

  5. Fans here believe that Mbape would be a hit not really because of his performance and goals but the price tag that has been tagged on him. Had Wenger brought him last summer all of them would have mocked the transfer saying he’s another prospect we do not need. Even at that, had the hype not been high and Monaco demanded about 20 million pounds, same fans would say he’s unproven and only a kid who excelled for half a season in a ‘weak leauge’. The attraction has been very much for what they term ‘statement of intent’ (whatever that means because I don’t remember Leicester nor Chelsea stating any intent in the last 2 seasons respectively).

On Martial, I see him not as a centre forward but a wing forward (like Ronaldo, Sanchez, Bale, Hazard). He’s a great talent who didn’t have the support of his manager who is obsessed with defending. At the moment he is away from the media spotlight and reckoning. This perfectly suits any club willing to make a move because his transfer fee won’t be inflated by the media hype. His talent remains there and requires a manager who is ready to nurture him and show him confidence. I would prefer a move for him to the much hyped and overpriced Mbape. Martial had a good first season in the EPL and last season didn’t get much game time while battling issues in his personal life. Don’t also forget that Martial is still only 21 with many years ahead of him. If it’s possible to get him, Wenger should fast abandon the media circuse called Mbape’s transfer and sign Martial.

  6. Mbape and Martial are similar in stature ………and play the same way………..to sell commercial stuff including jerseys……..I say sign Mbape ……….for experience and better prospect……,I say sign Martial…….but ManU will never sell Martial to Arsenal ……..not in the near future………. pogba 2.0?….

  7. Martial….so that’s another striker added to the list that we are supposedly interested in, I wonder who it will be tomorrow. Given that Wenger is so secretive and doesn’t say anything about his transfer dealings where do these pathetic rumours start. It’s not worth thinking about who we might sign, just wait until it’s announced officially, less stressful all round !!
