Zagreb doping scandal will not help Arsenal

So it seems that one of the Dinamo Zagreb players, Arijan Ademi, has failed a doping test after the tie with Arsenal in Croatia, although it will not be fully confirmed until UEFA have studied his B sample before any punishment can be applied.

Dinamo released this statement yesterday on learning of the failure. “We are aware of the results of the doping control test after the match of the Champions League first round against Arsenal and that our player, Arijan Ademi, was positive, and that Uefa opened proceedings against him.

“According to Uefa rules, Dinamo cannot comment on the case until the B sample is given. Our players have been regularly subjected to doping controls for years after European and league games, and never has anything like this ever happened, so that we have to say that we are surprised by this result.

“Arijan Ademi was tested six times in the last year and each time the report was negative.”

Arsenal lost the game 2-1 after Olivier Giroud was sent off, but the bad news is that if the player is found guilty he will probably be given a suspension and fine, but there is absolutely no chance of the Croatian Champions being docked points or the game being replayed. It is considered to be an individual transgression and not the fault of the club…..
