Why I believe that Gabriel Jesus will be leaving Arsenal this summer

Yesterday rumours started to circulate that Arsenal were open to letting Gabriel Jesus go in the summer if the right price was to come in. Of course, this is very early and anything can happen in football, especially when it comes to transfers, but it does leave us to question whether Jesus will be a right fit for this Arsenal squad next season. Here’s my two cents on it.

It’s no secret that Arsenal is going to be looking for a striker in the summer and after this season and the injury struggles that Gabriel Jesus has faced, it leaves questions as to if it’s worth keeping him around next season or not. Jesus has played only 24 games in the Premier League this season and has missed a huge chunk of games when we’ve needed him most. Although we’ve managed to survive and thrive without him, it has made things difficult attacking wise.

Missing so many games is always going to be a problem, it’s not just bad because they’re not available but it also takes a lot of strain on the players mental health and physical well-being. Also it naturally makes it harder to get back into the swing of things and back to your best form. Without Jesus this season it’s been hard and if it wasn’t for some players stepping up, it could have easily derailed our season.

Personally, I love Jesus, I think he’s a great player, with a lot of experience and passion towards the game. When he’s at his best, he’s incredible, but the injuries make it hard for me to want to keep him. As a person, I think he’s great, but when you’re missing such a massive chunk of the season and this seems to be consistently happening, it leads you to get frustrated with the player and for a squad like Arsenal, we need consistency.

He has a contract till 2027, which is obviously a long time and might be a bit of a struggle to sell on because of his injury record, but I do think it’s the smartest option going forward. Kai Havertz has proved he’s more than good enough to play as a striker and even Trossard has stepped in when needed, I think if Arsenal are going to bring in another top-class striker, Jesus will have to go.

I could see Jesus staying and not being number one choice and just being that experienced striker who can teach and use his experience to teach the younger players, but I don’t think Jesus will want to sit on the bench at all and think it’s likely he will leave in the summer.

What’s your thoughts Gooners?

  1. I for one will be happy to see the back of him. Nothing infuriates me more than him laughing and smiling after missing sitter after sitter. City knew exactly what they was doing selling us him a Zinchenko. To make matters worse we actually picked Jesus over Isak who would cost us about 100 million if we wanted him this summer.

    1. As long as he is limited to the wing, it’s not too bad. We can’t fix everything this Summer, so keep Jesus for 1 more year, let Partey finish out his contract, and let Zinchenko and Jorghino go elsewhere.

  2. Cannot see him going ,as we will once again make a big loss ,may as well keep him as a squad player ,he’s not as bad as people make out .

    1. Dk I know you and Isee many things differenly. But do you honestly believe that MA is likely to keep a player who is”not as bad as p[eole make out”?

I agree he is NOT bad. But he is also not PRODUCTIVE, scores very few goals, not many assists either.

He is often injured and costs high wages.

To my mind all that does NOT add up to a player I think MA will long keep around, EXCEPT possibly one more season, while we seek to upgrade him with other imports.

On balance, I expect him to leave this summer and I certainly HOPE he does, along with Zinny too, to whom much of the same as Jesus also applies.

      1. Cannot see it happening just because of out tight transfer funds and if we were to sell Jesus it would only possible bring in halve of what we paid for him ,something as to give if we want to upgrade and selling Jesus won’t bring in the required monies .
IMO best to keep as a squad player and try moving some of the younger players that have no future here ,IE Eddie ,Fabio and Nelson to name a few .

        1. Arteta was saying that there’ll be players leaving, so there will be some funds from sales, and also from prize money. We made £172 million for finishing 2nd last season, so expect at least that again.

          1. Take into account wages and that figure becomes non existent .
Arsenals yearly wage bill is 170 million as it stands ,.
Arsenal made 160 million for coming second last season ,like you said maybe a little higher this season ,but to buy players the club needs to start making profit on players ,which since Arteta came in as been awful .
Maybe we will have 100 million before selling ,but let’s be honest that these days that does not buy you much .

          2. As you say Jax, £172 was what we earned last season, so it should be at least the same this season, plus the money from the CL.

Also apparently Arteta said in his press conference today that he has no idea where this story about Jesus leaving has come from.

        2. I had already taken youR last, true, sentence as read, TBH!
On Jesus, though still only 26, the fact he would only fetch around half what he cost us, which I agree with, is surely all the more reason to get this busy but largely non productive player off our books. Any fee will still help us and he is high waged and often injured.
His star has fallen a great deal since he first came, in a blaze of deceiving optimism.

HE IS NOT THE SAME PLAYER NOW AS HE WAS BACK THEN!

  3. The first condition that to me is non negotiable for players of the top teams or the teams that aspire to be one, is fitness and availability. If Jesus takes time to recover properly, then I would have him in the squad and he can be a valuable player.

      1. No it doesn’t. Jesus is keen to return as soon as he can, which can hamper his recovery. He himself has stated he’s playing through pain in his knees. If he keeps doing that, he won’t get fit enough to last a season. IF he does that, he can be a valuable player.

  4. Far from getting over the hill, highly technical, a team player who more often than not is the player to initiate the attack.

The gaffer is right the Brazilian is going nowhere, as armchair managers gone off the rails again

  5. He has just become a bit player with no guarantee that he will return to his early season form of 22 -23. If Arsenal can afford to keep him on the bench then so be it, but if he is preventing a more competent striker from joining the club then he becomes an unnecessary l and ineffective asset.

  6. Jesus got to go as he now is occupying the same role he has had at City namely being a bench player. He is wasteful in front of goal, and needs to enroll into the diving101 course.

When Jesus looses the ball or doesn’t get his way in front of goal he dives and rolls on the floor. This has had a real bad influence on Saka when we drew 2:2 against Bayern, Saka could have rounded Neuer and scoring instead of diving and tricking the ref into giving a penalty. He learned that from Jesus and I hate to see him continuing this.

Get rid of Jesus and as already pointed out we are very bad at selling and will make a loss on him.

  7. I don’t have any issue with Jesus staying at the club, as I think he offers excellent cover for Saka on the RW but those are the only conditions in which I would keep him.

I think he is a more than adequate RW but doesn’t offer any of substance as a striker and is ineffectual on the LW and we have better options there anyway.
