Aaron Ramsey must NOT be allowed to run down his Arsenal contract

The Welshman Aaron Ramsey is stuck in contract talks with Arsenal, and there is no progress at all despite there only being two weeks to go until the end of the transfer window.

It certainly looks like Ramsey is stalling so that he can run down his contract next season and earn millions when he leaves next summer, rather than Arsenal cashing in the next week or two.

Ramsey seems quite happy about this situation. He said: “Am I under pressure? No,”

“It’s my decision and whatever I decide to do, that’s on me.

“What makes it awkward is the media keep asking the questions. It’s like having a baby in the car saying, ‘Are we there yet? Are we there yet?’

“Listen, I’m a player who always gives 100 per cent, regardless of what’s going on. I will be no different to that and I will give absolutely everything to try to achieve something special this season and win football games, regardless of what is going on behind the scenes.

“We are communicating. My agent and the club are speaking but we’re yet to come to an agreement.

“I’ve still got a year left and I’m looking forward to being in an Arsenal shirt in the new season and doing my best for this club. I’m hoping to have a successful season under the new manager.”

And there is the clue. “I’ve still got a year left”. That makes it look obvious he won’t be signing the five year extension, and if he can just get past to the first day of next season he will be holding the club to ransom. We all know how that worked out with Alexis sanchez, don’t we?

If he is still stalling next week then he really must be sold. He is certainly not the loyal Gooner I thought he was.

  1. He has all the power, if he wants to sign, he’ll sign, if he doesn’t, he won’t. If he wants to see his contract through to the end, and walk away on a free, that’s what he’ll do.

Arsenal have no power to make him do anything h doesn’t want to.

    1. Club can bench him, tell him to agree to a transfer or finish his last year with U-23’s.

Ramsey nothing special, very average, AMN will be a better player for club. Smith Rowe coming along also.

Honestly, 2-3 years from now club be better and smarter starting AMN or Smith Rowe than a 30yr old injury wreck like Ramsey.

Ramsey needs Arsenal WAY WAY MORE than club need him.

      1. 100% right Durand. I still believe he’s waiting for big club to come in for him but no ones interested.

  2. Guendouzi was brilliant today, his passing was flawless and very athletic. Id play him over Xhaka anyday.
    Torreira+guendouzi will be very interesting

    1. Going as far as making a newbie into a god just to justify your dislike towards Granit Jacky, lol.

  3. Am fine if he stays and work on his weaknesses, of course he must sign da thing, but if he goes, i for one would not shed tears, just as well as d money realised from d sale in re-invest in bringing in top-notch box to box cm

  4. As I brought to you guys yesterday Jeff Reine Adelaide complete his move for £6m.
There’s an “Arsenal” clause in his contract so should he impress we can sign him back.I just hope there won’t be a bidding war when he impressed though.

    1. is he impressive though? He had a good reputation when we bought him but has not looked good in any opportunity given to him. Perhaps a club with less pressure he will grow. Good move for him certainly because I dont think it was going to happen here

  5. He is a professional like Ozil and Sanchez, that would work to honour his contract

There is nothing wrong in running down his contract, because he could get a much bigger salary from another club, like what happened to Ozil, Sanchez, Kolasinac and Meyer

This stunt is trending because of the crazy transfer price, but Arsenal should move fast to get money from the player sale. The company (the club) and the employee (the player) have equal rights to stop their cooperation

  6. I do think Ramsey will give 100% whether he extends or not. After all he is playing for one last big contract. It’s not ideal but not the end of the earth if he has a great year for us and walks on a free next year. Maybe by then we’ll have any number of young guns ready to make the step – AMN, Smith-Rowe, Guendozi (spelling?) or a new signing. I’d rather that then extend him now and he continues his irratic play. This is Arsenal and selling Ramsey for x million pounds doesn’t guarantee bringing anyone of similar or higher quality.

    1. You think he’s playing for one last contract or to leave on a free when he’ll double his wages. Get rid of him now while we can still get some money for him. We won’t miss him.

      1. @Sue

We need to tie him down before Madrid take him to replace Ronaldo.. he is the biggest thing that’s going to come put of our academy. by 2025, I expect him to have won 5 Balon d’or. Emile Smith Rowe will make Arsenal FC great again

          1. I’m dead Serious .

this boy will be 18 on Saturday . we should be giving him a professional contract worth £400,000 p/w

  7. Who will buy him. Selling him will be the best decision and use it to Invest in the wide position

  8. I was never a fan of Ramsey and i always knew why. Very selfish and to overconfident. If Dirk Kuyt 2.0 decides to go, then so long as there are plenty of players one could replace him with. My fav. remains Rabiot but lets see what happens. Wilshere will go mad in case if Ramsey decide to go. lol.

  9. By the way, saw some youtube video and the kid Smith Rowe looks very good. Hope that he keeps the good work up.

  10. judas, judas, judas that what certain players are. no loyalty at all. unless sold they keep hoping to leave free. i am not referring only to ramsey, but of all players like him. get rid of them. the club c omes first. – gooner = forever

    1. qoni, You and others call certain players a Judas, because you fail to understand thet players are NOT fans of thr club they play for. WE ARE FANS and have a different level of club devotion , usually starting when we are ypoung children. Ask yourself if fans have that same fan devotion to the company they work for and you will see the normality of this not being inlove with those who pay your living. That is normal natural and the only pity is that unthinking or not especially bright fans cannot or will not accept this truth. There are a few players who were life long fans eg Jenkinson BUT THEY HAVE STILL TO EARN A LIVING WITH FAMILIES TO SUPPORT, and Jenks, who is not of the standard we need, will soon be leaving us. He has a career to think of, unlike we fans who turn up out of sheer love for OUR club. And it IS OUR CLUB , because we are the only ones who love it heart and soul, so morally we are the ones who sustain it with our passion and devotion. To expect players to share this deep devotion, apart from a few exceptions – the Nevilles, Beckham, Gerrards, Charlie George, Bob Wilsons (most of whom are finished and of a different era) is naive, immature and ignores the reality of life and how humans are. To call them Judas for pursuing their career and putting that career before the club they play for but do not love( not being fans) is just unthinking and plain silly. That is life and you either accept it or you rail, frustratingly, against reality. HOWEVER , WE ARE ENTITLED TO 100% COMMITTMENT ALL THE TIME WE ARE PAYING THEIR WAGES.

  11. Breaking news.
    Ronaldo7 has been fined 19m
and given a 2 year jail sentence
    for his 2016 tax fraud.
Juve has confirmed Rolando has been sold

  12. To me he has decided to go.Nice player to have but very easily replaced. We have AMN and Guendouzi who could both play next to Torreira and let’s not forget Xhaka May just come good under Emery.
Rabiot would be a great buy if Ramsey is sold. But if he stays wouldn’t it just serve him right to be on the bench and only starting Carabao and Europa Cup games.
I would never doubt Ramsey’s commitment but it would make a statement not playing him as first choice

  13. This is quite interesting, actually. This is a great opportunity for the new management to lay down a marker and distance themselves from the pathetic practices of the Wenger years.
Just like others on this page, I suspect that this is all about money. Ramsey wants to stay but, having seen the ridiculously lucrative new contract that Ozil has somehow negotiated, wants a massive pay increase. But the club aren’t will to pay anywhere near what he wants. So now we have an impasse.
Ramsey should be told to either sign before the transfer window closes or he should be sold. A valuable asset must not be allowed to run down his contract and then walk away for nothing – or even a reduced price next January. If he wants to screw the club around then he should be frozen out and left to train with the reserves. There doesn’t appear to be a great clamour for his services: the transfer rumour mill is saying nothing about him, so I suspect that he’s playing with a weak hand. The club should call him on this bullshit.
Personally, I don’t care too much whether he stays or goes: he’s a decent player but not a world beater. But the club must now show strength in dealing with players in this situation.
BTW: if he was half as decent as some on here think, why is there no offer for him from anywhere ?

    1. Just like Ozil, Arsenal cannot sell Ramsey if nobody has real interest

If that’s the case, unfortunately Arsenal have to give Ramsey a huge increase, otherwise he can leave for free at the end of this season

        1. ???Ramsey to accept Arsenal offer, sign extension or be sold. This needs to be brought to a head and resolved. There are plenty of replacements available in the market.

    2. Well said mate, he wouldnt start for any of the
top 5 teams and none of the European blue
bloods have expressed any interest in his
      contractual situation.

Offer him financial terms similar to Xhaka and
if he refuses to sign banish his bang average
talent to the reserves until the January window.
Perhaps then Fulham, Newcastle or SHampton
      will be looking to strengthen.

The collective talent of AMN, Smith Rowe, Guendouzi and Torreria honestly make the
      Welshman and his flicks expendable.

  14. I reckon Ramsey wants to see how things work out under the new manager before signing a contract. He knew he was guaranteed a starting place under Wenger in any circumstances, but things will hopefully be different under Emery.

If he isn’t good enough to get a starting place, which may well end-up being the case sooner or later if Emery really wants to challenge for major trophies, then he will have the option of leaving on a free at the end of the season. Makes sense for him to run-down his contract unless Arsenal offer him a mega-wage deal, which I believe he isn’t worth, so better for everyone to leave things as they are.

  15. These contracts (Sanchez, Ozil, Ramsey) make our club look so weak. What other clubs bend over so easy and wilfully play the hostage?

Ramsey had these negotiations and contract on the table for MONTHS AND MONTHS! Even Wenger was waiting for Ramsey to sign!

I say forget this mediocre overpaid overhyped wantabee. Selfish, undisciplined, we won’t miss him.

Lastly, someone tell this Welsh fool true leaders don’t ask to be named captain.

You knew Tony Adams had the qualities, you knew Vieira was the leader type. We haven’t had a “real” captain for far too long.

    Emery mentioned 5 captains, imagine this;
    1. Adams
    2. Vieira
    3. Arteta
    4. Per
    5. Ramsey

Sad really. We probably do need five, because we still lack that one commanding presence. Emery is much nicer and polite,

  16. If i was Ramsey i would want the most i could get, probably his last big contract, but, i am not Ramsey i am an Arsenal fan, i feel no player at Arsenal can wear a shirt saying ” i can not be replaced”. Ramsey i will say you are good, but we can find BETTER players on the market, even more suitable for arsenal needs.

The arsenal Board has to send a message, sign or we sending you home off the tour, back home to train with the under 23s

  17. This contract issue has dragged on for too long. Ramsey needs to help the coach, team and club to sort out this matter. Emery should know who is ready to work with him long term so as to properly implement his tactics. The club need to give him an ultimatum before the window shuts down. Either he signs or we sell him and use funds to buy player/s who will help Emery impliment his tactics long term.
