Arsenal close in on £30m Dortmund star?

Arsenal fans do a lot of moaning despite the team only losing one solitary League game this season, and that was against leaders Chelsea, but we should all thank our lucky stars that we don´t support Borussia Dortmund. Despite easily topping Arsenal´s Champions League Group, the German giants are currently BOTTOM of the Bundesliga.

Jurgen Klopp is used to losing his stars to his opponents and it would be little surprise if he lost some more as they bail out of a sinking ship. Arsenal were reportedly chasing the brilliant central defender Mats Hummels in the summer, and according to a report in today´s Mirror the Gunners are aiming to try and entice him again in January.

The 25 year-old German international would certainly go some way to shoring up our leaky defence, and with our German contingent on hand to help him settle in quickly in London he could be an excellent addition to the Arsenal squad.

The report also says that Man United are also interested in bringing Hummels to the Premier League, but they maintain that £30million-rated star would prefer to join his compatriots at the Emirates, and would be happy to do so this winter.

Arsenal have been linked with many cheaper centre-back alternatives in the last couple of months, but with Wenger always sprouting his mantra that “new arrivals must improve the squad” then surely Hummels would be a certain target. Should Arsenal go all out to sign him, whatever the cost?

I would be very surprised (pleasantly) if a move of such magnitude would happen in January. Historically, there are no big moves in January especially for the teams involved in European competitions.

The game against Swansea looks like one of those games. Bony versus Monreal? No thanks 🙁

Which Germany contingent to influence Hummels coming?? Ozil who Wenger plays out of position and fans boo at times ?! Podolski who Wenger hates?! Gnabry who Wenger plays for one game then benches for the next 7?! Matersacker who the fans hate?? You expect them to have good reports on arsenal, the fans and Wenger at large??? 🙁 🙁
Expect no more Germans.. that’s the sad truth 🙁 🙁 🙁

Opinions divided. What do you think? Thumb up 11 Thumb down 18

@ pythagoras…….there’s an atom of truth in what u’ve said tho……perhaps hummels might just be convinced by a Long telephone conversation or via external influences

And we all know Wenger is a gutless, biased man. He would leave Hummels on the bench and persist with Per. We all know Hummer is better than Per.

No this is a transfer rumour I want to hear, (and long to believe).
As for whether we can get him and Wenger will pay £30m for a defender is another question.
I fear the likes of Man U will entice him with a huge salary plus bonuses.
I think it’s more likely will get Van Djik, Schar, Winston Reid etc.
We need someone who’s the right age to come in and partner Kos for years to come, Per has had his day.

All I want for Christmas is Hummels and Kondogbia 🙂

You say that but Wenger did pay 16m for an unproven 19 year old defender, there is a chance Wenger could go in for him but whether Hummels will leave is the question – he’s only just been made captain of their team.

The question is, why would a player leave a club like Dortmund to come to a club like Arsenal?

With a club like Dortmund there is a ceiling they can’t progress as there stars will always go too top teams.

They also have three good centre back in Subotic,Sokratis,Ginter and a very promising one in Saar so they wouldn’t need to replace him plus they can cash in big in January

I would love him but wenger doesn’t like to spend big
I would also be very happy with
    Schar
    Wanyama
    And snot
We could get all 3 for 35 m
Then Boss and Schar 1/2nd choice chambers 3 and mert 4th choice
Song and wanyama as two DM
    Now we can compete

    Highly unlikely it will happen.
I will be pleasantly surprised if Wenger actually addresses the gaps in the squad.
We could buy Van Djik from Celtic, he is looking every bit the real deal, he even gave Barca work to do when they met, doesn’t get overawed by a big occasion.

Guys, sincerely, I think we can go very far in the E.P.L. and C.L.– not saying we can win it, but anything is possible.— if we get our team selection right and play the right players in the right position when everyone is fit.

Well if Messi wanted to join us maybe Hummels would be interested. However the real question is would Wenger be willing to spend £30 million on a DEFENDER? highly unlikely even though he surprised me by spending £16 million on Chambers, so who knows?
