Arsenal have NOT signed Lichsteiner

The only concrete Arsenal transfer rumour we have had so far was the news that the 34 year-old Juventus centre-back Stefan Lichsteiner had visited London Colney for talks with the Gunners over a possible move to Arsenal as a free agent, but it seems that the deal is far from complete and he has other options available.

Lichsteiner is currently with the Switzerland squad preparing for the World Cup and the ex-Lazio player told journalists that it is far from a done deal. He also has the chance to remain in Turin for another year on an extension.

“Nothing is finished yet.” he told Calciomercato. “I cannot comment on the negotiations.

“As long as nothing is completed, that is always interesting in football. I think we all know that.”

So it is fair to say we can ignore the supposed ITK’s (hi Kev!) who have been assuring us that the deal was completed a couple of weeks ago…

    1. Mate don’t worry. As I said and have always been saying Sokratis and Lichtsteiner are already done.
The Lichsteiner move is imminent. It’s a matter of when not if.He might be announced together with Lichtsteiner along with Yacine Adli.I just don’t want to sign repetitive on saying that it’s a done deal.I’m looking at other players we are actually looking at like Soyuncu,Torreira,Nzonzi,Leno,Dembele etc.

Don’t worry be.Everything has happened behind the scene and it’s a done deal.

      1. Let me also clear this up:
Our pursuit of Yacine Adli is still very much alive and the stories about Madrid earlier in the week weren’t accurate. The deal is already done and he’s rejected all interested clubs for us. Because he’s a minor however we will have to pay PSG around €255k (£223k) in compensation, unless we wait until Jul 29th when he’s 18 so he will come for free.Ypu guys should rather be bothered about those we need which look unlikely e.g Torreira.

        Sokratis done
        Lichtsteiner done
        Yacine Adli done

Next up Jasper Cilessen or Leno.

        1. You must be Emery assistant to know all this. The guy said it is far from done deal but you managed to know what the guy himself doesn’t know. Pathetic!!!!

  1. what makes you think we will ever sign him? This new mob are showing themselves no better than AW in procrastination. Get defender N’zonzi, Mahrez, another EPL experienced defender

He was never going to make a move prior to WC anyway

  2. Can we sign somebody already!

Our lack of patience is justified due to our past experience. We ponder, delay & over analyse then make a weak bid at the last minute for most players. What in the hell do our scouts get paid for? The trinity need to prove to the fans that we have also turned a new chapter in terms of recruitments. The jury is still out.

OT: Way to dampen a young players spirit Lowe, Sane being dropped must really hurt.

    1. hate man city but poor sane. but ozil the great is there lol. to be fair to ozil when he plays for Germany he makes a difference. not always the case when playing for us eh?!

    2. Pablo thanks for picking up on “the trinity”.
Unfortunately we fans have been burnt before and patience is on a short fuse.
Hopefully confidence will be restored with some good good signings.

    3. I’m patient and believe it is done when it is done. I won’t be drawn into Kev, resources or media bullshit.

    4. How is Julian Brandt better than Sane? I get he hasn’t been great internationally but neither has Brandt (15 caps-1 goal) vs (12 games no goals). Sane is also the only fast wide man they have, he would’ve given them a different dimension even off the bench. Surely there’s a reason other than football behind it all

      1. Sane is Germany’s best player at the moment, so it’s really weird Low was not able to integrate him properly. Glad now Low is not our manager – same personal preferences like Wenger, even if you push a worse player ahead of the more talented one.

Gutted, as Sane is (alongside Kante) my favorite player to watch right now.

  3. Patience everyone, yes it would be nice to sign someone but most players are now with their WC squads for final friendlies. I think it’s only Liverpool who have signed a player so far?

    1. He had a good domestic season but has never fitted into the way Lowe likes to play. It’s pretty harsh but in some ways refreshing to see players selected because they fit into a system rather than trying to make square holes fit into round pegs (see Xhaka as DM; Ramsey as winger; Walcott as striker; Squillaci as a football player… etc)

  4. If Sane cannot make the Gertman squad, then Germany will HAVE to win the WC or be a laughing stock. If he were English , Sane would be the very first name I would pick for the Engliss squad, just ahead of Kane in second place. He is THAT good.

    1. He agree, the kid is extremely talented. It’s amazing watching him run with the ball from one goal post to the next in a few seconds. I wish we can find a gem like him. Instead we have Ramsey playing on our wing 🙁

    2. Can you remember Ian Wright not being picked by Graham Taylor for the 1992 Eoropean Championships in Sweeden? He finished top scorer in the league and was on fire for us after moving from Palace and was ignored by Taylor for no reason at all.
Sane was without doubt the stand out young player in the PL last season and he would have benefitted hugely with the experience of being in that squad.
I don’t believe Wrighty ever forgave Taylor and Sane will be feeling the same today I’m sure

    3. I think Loew’s system is abit similar to Barca’s, less dependant wingers and rather have full backs supplying the width play while the “wingers” or wide midfielders cut in to make up the numbers in the middle. It is why Germany in the past (on paper) has had Ozil, Goetz or Muller on the wings. He must have picked Draxler for this particular reason and I suspect a lot of sympathy went into selecting Reus due to the last world cup heartbreak.

Now selecting Brandt over Sane I don’t get, maybe disciplinary issues or something must have put off the coaching staff. Sane would have added some extra spark to the tournament though, really wanted to see Sane, Mbappe, Gabriel J, Iwobi, Lemar, Dyabala, and other “youngsters” perform.

      1. Quite unbelievablely Dyabala was not picked for the Argentinian World Cup Squad So it shows how much firepower and talent they have up front

        1. A good pal of mine who is Portuguese and a Sporting Lisbon gah believes it will Gelson Martins who is the plsyervto light up this Word Cup.Ive seen a bit of him in action and I know we have been linked with him ( who haven’t we been linked with ).Any thoughts on him?

          1. @Phil sad Dybala will also miss out at the WC.

On Martins I personally haven’t seen enough of him but from what I read it seems he has potential to be either another Gervihno or can turn out to be a Robben. 13 goals and 13 assists for troubled Sporting last term shows some good indication though. He might not come cheap though, especially if he has a good WC.

          2. Phil Arsenal should get the double Martins and Cavahlo and they can room together.

    4. Jon that shows how low in term of qualities England has compare to Germany. Obviously, Sane name will come first in a team that has Welbeck, lallana, Alli, Young, Luftos Chek, Rashford, lingard etc.

  5. Leno didn’t make the Germany squad but Kevin Trapp did, and Trap is quite garbage..

    How good is Leno actually?

Never really heard anything positive about him.

    1. There’s three keepers ahead of him that we know of, Trapp, Stegen and Neuer. Ive never seen a nation with two top top GK’s not that I can remember, usually one stands out. I know this isn’t foolproof with logic, but surely we can find a no1 who can be compared generously with other no1’s.

      1. Stegen and Neuer are both in the top 6, 7 GKs in the world.

And Italy often has at least 2 or 3 among top 10 GKs.

Hell, even tiny Slovenia has Oblak and Inter’s Handanovic (who is BTW miles ahead of Ospina in quality).

  6. Remember that this is a World Cup Summer so transfers will most likely happen afterwards.

Players usual excuse is that “I need to concentrate” on the World Cup.

  7. I’ll be honest here, am reading our transfer rumours but I can’t help feel a little jealous of Liv’s efforts. Fekir sounds all set to sign, I thought bigger clubs would come after him. In my opinion he’s an upgrade on Coutinho, if settles and suits the pace I think he’s an upgrade. But it’s not just how people rate their signings, it’s that they’ve had a clear plan going all the way back into last season ..with how they kept an eye on the next season. VVD and Naby. They really are thinking ahead while we still look to be lagging, like someone above mentioned when comparing our before and afters picture with Arsene.

  8. Apparently we will be signing Fellaini on a free.

Which means we’re only waiting for offers for Xhaka and he’s off. Good riddance. Not a fan of Fellaini, but more useful than Xhaka for sure.
