Jose Mourinho speaks openly about Alexis Sanchez transfer – Confident but relaxed?

Well we are all waiting for the final decision on the transfer of Alexis Sanchez to Man United, and we all know that Arsene Wenger promised Arsenal fans a decision one way or the other in “48 hours” but obviously he doesn’t ever talk about transfers ’til they are cut and dried.

But Jose Mourinho has no qualms like that and has made a statement regarding Alexis Sanchez (and also Henrik Mkhitaryan who is being rumoured to be included in a swap deal) on the official Man United website, and this is his description of the current position….

Mourinho on...ALEXIS SANCHEZ

“I am not confident, but also not unconfident. Just relaxed and we have the feeling that he is an Arsenal player. We have the feeling that he can stay there. But also the feeling that he can move and if he moves, I think we have a chance. But, I think most probably, a player like him has other big clubs interested. Who knows? I think him, Mr Wenger and Mr Gazidis [Arsenal’s chief executive], I think they know really what is going to happen. I have no idea to be honest. Today I was completely separate from all of that. I was focused on my match and not worried about anything else other than the match. I’m not going to speak about hypothetical siutuations, he is an Arsenal player and he can be an Arsenal player. But I feel I shouldn’t speak about him because he is an Arsenal player.”

HENRIKH MKHITARYAN

“He is our player, he is a Manchester United player, so I can speak about him. He is a player that I like, of high quality, who can give us a lot. If he stays here, he is a very good player. This season he started very well and then he came a little bit down. Last season he was an important player and helped us win the Europa League, so let’s see what’s going to happen. Is he going to be involved in a deal and leave us? It’s possible but it’s also possible that he stays. We have to protect him and to protect the team a little bit, so let’s make sure that he stays with us or that he leaves us. The market is open. It’s a pity that the window closes on the 31st, it should close tomorrow.”

So what do we make of that? It sounds like he is definitely confirming a deal could happen, and he wants it decided quickly.

So what do you make of his words? Are you “confident or unconfident” that Alexis is going to Old Trafford?

  1. Option 1: Cash plus MKHITARYAN or no deal.
Option 2: Less Cash plus Martial or no deal.
Option 3: More cash and no player or no deal

Don’t help Jose unless we can get something significant(relatively) from him.

  2. We should also sign a proper DM. Xhaka is not a DM. Wenger should address this issue. Xhaka is a deep lying playmaker. He is not quick enough, does not have the pace. We should sign Nzonzi or convert AMN to the DM role. Wenger should also sell Welbeck and recall Perez. Aubameyang cannot play for us in the Europa league this season. Our four strikers should be Laca, Aubameyang, Giroud and Perez. Go back to a 4312 formation. Midfield 3 of Wilshere Xhaka and AMN. Ozil/Mkhi playing behind Lacazette and Aubameyang. We need to start winning games. We have to go on a winning run of 10 games to have a chance of qualifying for the champions league next season. The team should improve defensively. Stop sideway passing. High pressing. Quick counter attacking game.

    1. auba can’t play for Europe league is a good thing too…he can rest on thurs night and recharge for league games while Lacazette can play in the Europe….rotation

  3. Arsenal is in no position to haggle.
    Sanchez wants a massive salary.
Only mega clubs can pay his salary.
But no mega club need Sanchez now.
PSG, Barca, Bayern, Man City+ Juve have already
won their leagues sothey don’t need him.
Chelsea can’t win the League nor can Utd.
Why pay a big fee for an over the hill 30 yr old with
a bad attitude and huge salary demands
especially when they can get him for free in June.
If Utd offer a Mhkitaryan swap (no cash deal) then that’s it.
    Arsenal has no say.
Unless some one else comes in to the bidding Arsenal has one choice.
    Take it or leave it.

      1. He wants a 4 year retirement package
where he can get 300k p/w.
But by years 3 and 4 when he is 32/33
he will be an even more embarrassing
expensive and even harder to shift Mhkitaryan.
What club is so stupid to agree to that?.

  5. I think mkhi will surely be Gunner very soon. Because his agent is Mino raiola (super agent), and he’ll surely make manure pay mkhi to move.
