Should this future star be Arsenal’s No.1 target? – With Video

Arsenal are always on the look-out for top young talents, and one future star who I believe we should make a move for is Fulham’s Ryan Sessegnon.

The 16 year-old is currently enjoying his time in West-London, picking up his fair share of game-time, having started 10 Championship matches already this season, and chipping in with his share of the goals also.

Ryan played the full 90 minutes against Premier League outfit Hull City in the FA Cup, and scored in that match also, and his potential stands out above any other young left-back I have looked at.

We currently have Kieran Gibbs and Nacho Monreal vying for first-team football at Arsenal, while we also signed 20 year-old youngster Cohen Bramall in January, who has himself been likened to Ashley Cole.

There is no talk of an imminent move into the first-team squad for Bramall, while Sessegnon is already showing his worth for Fulham’s senior side, and looks certain to reach the highest level in the coming years.

Neither Monreal or Gibbs have particularly impressed this term, although the Spaniard was amongst the best in the division only last season, and our club will most definitely have to be assessing the left-back role this summer.

Sessegnon may well be overlooked as we may prefer to look at more experienced players to come in and overthrow the duo, but I would hate to see us miss out on this youngster, who has already attracted interest from the likes of Chelsea and Liverpool also.

Part of me feels he could one day make the switch from left-back into a winger, which could well have him more suited to a move to the Blues, as he would likely relish a run in their newly inherited wing-back role, but I hope he decides to move a little further away from his current club.

Could Sessegnon challenge for a first-team role at Arsenal? Should we bring him in to be understudy of Gibbs or Monreal?

  1. YouTube has a way of making players better than they are…Even Sanogo looked like a star in a YouTube video.
I know Ryan is a decent player…but his YouTube video is not doing him justice.

  2. Just what Arsenal needs, a physically slight boy with a whole lot of learning ahead. Of course he’s one for the future, but did we not just sign one of those in the very same position. Celtic snapped up the one we should’ve been looking at, we’ve been looking at this skinny kid for three seasons now, I don’t get it. The youngsters I want to see us targeting are the one’s on the cusp of being brilliant. We need to stop caring about the millions we’ll save by trying to sign them well before maturity. You can’t be near enough certain that way, and you’re interrupting their progress with the stuff ($, stardom & homesickness) that goes with a big move at that age. There’s some youngsters out there who already look nearly ready, at the least they’re way ahead of other youngsters their own age. Monaco will get raided, if getting them at 15 was working well then we’d have those Monaco youngsters.
