Wenger says the Cup Final was ‘tight’ and Arsenal can ‘respond’ tomorrow

Arsenal have to pick themselves up after being soundly beaten by Man City on Sunday, but Arsene wenger doesn’t think it was such a bad beating and is hoping the Gunners can bounce back and beat the League leaders at the Emirates tomorrow.

This is what the Boss said this morning: “I felt it was a very tight game until the 2-0 [on Sunday]. When you look at the end of the game, Man City had three shots on target and we had two. So overall, I believe that we have to turn the decisive moments in our favour [this time] and play with more freedom than we did. I think we played a bit apprehensively and that is important that we go into the game with that force that is part of our game and our philosophy.”

He was then if he would be able to get the players to respond after Sunday’s reversal, and he said: “Well, when you do not get the result, it’s part of our job. Part of our job is to respond and to focus on the next game. You want only to win games, it’s not always possible, so it’s the way you respond. I believe that [we need to] analyse well, focus on the next one and respond together in a united way, which his part of our philosophy at the club.”

At least at the Emirates we have had an excellent record this season, with our only League defeat coming against Man United, but we have now lost both our meetings with City this season by a three goal difference. Personally i think if we manage to hold them to a draw it would be a success of sorts, but I’m not holding my breath…..

  1. he was right…it was tight till 2nd goal and everyone gave up after…..

we need to get serious…and even if we lose we should at least break some legs….like what Viera and co will do….

give the opponent some serious wound and they will fear the emirates on the next visit

    1. Tight? Haha I watched that final and it wasn’t even a tenth as tight as a relegation 3 pointer. We went in business as usual, started shipping in the goals and duly folded and waited for the final whistle. It was the most cowardly and pathetic performance I have seen from Arsenal even the 8-2 capitulation at the hands of man utd had more fight! This was as anticlimactic as a final can be! We should have played them far earlier in the competition and saved ourselves some precious time and energy.

    2. Arsenal Players Energy Type is not suitable for long and intense competition such as Premiere League. Too many non energy type (manifestor, projector and reflector) in the midfield…so it is hard to be consistent all season.
From The Human Design perspective…we are just inconsistent. Comparing this squad with The Invincibles which are packed with Generators and Manifesting Generators….the difference is so obvious.
Sell Ozil, Ramsey, Wilshere and Xhaka and replace them with Generators type.
Just googling “Human Design” if you don’t understand what I am talking about

    3. yeah, that’s just not the truth. Arsenal’s only opportunity was Aubameyang’s early chance, and Bravo coming out of goal. Outside of that Arsenal produced absolutely nothing. City were not even close to playing their best and walked all over us. You can’t be serious saying it was a close game when most of the Arsenal fans in the stadium were so disgusted by the display they couldn’t even bare to stay the 90 minutes.

    4. I agree partly. I think without that weak tele tubby defending by Mustafi we could’ve grinded out 0-0 for a while longer. Maybe have a bit more confidence? I predicted 3-1 City, so I’m not surprised but I didn’t think Man City looked like they were going to score until that weak s*it happened.

  2. Sadly whatever Wenger says now I always think the same two things, firstly do you honestly believe what you are saying and secondly its time now arsene for your own sake as well as the teams.

  3. Let me guess, Xhaka, Ozil, and Mustafi will all start tomorrow? They’ll be NO repercussions tomorrow night. Wenger will only drop Chambers for Mkhitaryan, and switch to a back four, Cech for Ospina, Kolasinac for Monreal (which are both predetermined anyway), and maybe fitness test for Ramsey…and that’s it!

I really hope City thump us, and Milan dump us out of Europe, which is actually very likely, if it means Wenger gets sacked.

  4. Yeah it was really tight… Losing 3-0 is so close to winning… Give it a rest Arsene!

If we lose to ManC again tomorrow I bet he’ll say “It was close, but the official made a mistake and it changed the game and made us lose” but “We showed great mental strength” and “Anything is possible in football, so we can still make top-4 an even go on to win the league”

Wenger is living on another planet these days. It keeps reminding me of the Brian Clough. An inspirational and successful manager in his prime, but a crazy and deluded old man when he was way past his sell-by-date and everything went sour. I just hope our board have the sense to stop this nonsense before we go the way of Nottingham Forest.

  5. i wonder if our team is watching rochdale to night ,
then they know what it is wearing the shirt, there players all have BALLS:

    1. I think most fans are only watching cause they want to see how the arsenal train derails. With master of disaster Wenger in front cabin trying to do up his zipper. There’s no more point hoping for anything else but complete failure which will cause the change our owners fear so much…

  6. I can only pray we lose tomorrow if that we get Wenger sacked, before he will come and say we showed great mentality, and that we should focus on the positive. Please tell Wenger to accept the whole world and leave us alone

    1. you are definitely not a fan….

pray for the club to lose so that a manager can get sack…..??

This is very personal attack….praying something bad will happen so that another person will suffer…

Wenger will not be here forever…

players and managers come and go……but the club stays on

One should support the club and not wish the club to fall….

      1. A Fan wants the team to win and make progress but as things stands at Arsenal we are regressing and this is sad,the only way out of this downward trend is simple Wenger Out. Insanity is doing the same thing and expecting a different result.

          1. John although I want to see change at Arsenal and believe that this cannot be achieved under Arsene Wenger, I am a fan and like you I want Arsenal FC to be successful. I never wish for defeat!

      2. Sometimes a door needs to shut, for another to open!

Every true fan should be ready to suffer if it means we lose a few more games (Isn’t it worse already, we will be 6th no matter what) at least change happens, Wenger out and a better coach in.

        SIMPLE

      3. Good point dont understand people who say there fans and want there team to constantly lose its like there mad we have won trophies and that for years now they were praying we would do worse than we have the club carrys on which is why supporters shouldn’t walk out of a cup final early and embarrass the club

  7. From. Tomorrow let’s focus on the Negative. Those going to see the game should be there with Wenger our banner

  8. Spurs 5 Rochdale 1.
    An a-varlanche of goals.
    ist half Var decisions certainly
    wound Spurs up.
    The Rochdale manager
    shoud be sacked immediately.
    The players have given up.
    Where is Gary Neville now?
Spineless a disgrace walking at Wembly.
Where is the little Rochdale boy crying?

        1. it was not one off…it was an expected defeat….

Ozil was already full of excuses…

          Wilshere burn out

          Ramsay unfit…

          Mikhi cup tied….

Welbeck shooting balloons in the sky…..

Xhaka doesn’t defend and cant tackle….

you cant win against a Fifa 18 team with such team

      1. Probably counting all the medals he won in his career. He has earned the right to give his views as he see’s it.The truth hurts doesn’t it?

        1. Even that Chelsea pundit said it was harsh, he (Neville) talked like Arsenal players were snatching old ladies handbags whilst spitting on them.

      2. The reason for Neville’s spiteful attack was because he cannot bear watching City win.

Therefore in his eyes any City victory must be due to the inadequacy of their opponents.

        Pox Doctor’s Clerk!

    1. shock, another arsenal fan deflecting from our poor performances by bringing up another team. And it’s not even an EPL side this time folks. The mental gymnastics one has to go through to make Wenger look good is astounding.

  9. I sometimes wonder after listening to Arsene Wegner if he was at the same game ,because for him to believe that before the second goal the game was close is clearly ridiculous ,he then went on to say ,he doesn’t understand why people are acting like we lost to a team at the bottom of the league ,someone should have reminded him of the team losing to Nottingham Forest in the FA cup, really sad that the embarrassment under this delusional old man continues without anyone responsible enough to stop him.

    1. City lost to wigan where is the blow up there huh? Lets get for reals people even livwerpoodles lossed to west brom where is the blow up there huh? Manure lossed to bristol coty in league cup this year wheres the blow up? Were not the only good team to lose to lesser opponents lets get real people your prosecution is weak an sounds more like a club torturers than supporters

      1. Thomas, answer this, do you want to see Arsenal win the league title and try and get that first CL trophy. If the answer is yes I’d love us to do it, do you in all honesty see Arsenal doing that with Wenger at the helm. Answer honestly. Do you see that team beating City Spu ManU Che Liv to the title at all or any time soon.

Football is a competitive game, Arsene understands that, he has chucked many a man on the scrap heap for not measuring up. Look at Eduardo, Eduardo could not fulfill his duties requirement and on the scrap heap he went. P Vieira wasn’t even old, he still had uses, but Wenger didn’t hesitate in ripping him away from his adoring fans. What would Wenger do if he was the decision maker at board room level all these years, if it was his club literally. He would not have hesitated in putting this managerial record onto the chopping block.

  10. “We were robbed by the ref not giving enough injury time. It is clear that we were sure to score four goals in the extra minute the ref robbed us of. We had all the play and the ref was at fault for all City’s goals and Mustafi was Man of the Match. I am going to remain manager til I am 99 and Arsenal are definitely going to win the treble next season and the Europa this year. Plus we will win our last eleven league games and finish second behind City. Xhaka is my best ever buy and I am deeply in love with him!”

“Get off me! What are you doing? Why are you putting that straitjacket on me? Help! Help!” SOUNDS FADE AS HE GOES OFF TO THE LOONY BIN AND INTO A PADDED CELL.

  11. Clueless and delusional is our Arsene Wenger as well as very stubborn/arrogant. I wouldn’t mind the stubborn/arrogant part (many managers are) if we were winning and he knew what he was doing.

    1. Are you ok you are in a rubber room an aliens are telling you that you like a club but should say only bad things about it complain about winning trophies they say complain about making cup finals they say you are in a rubber room

      1. Wtf is a rubber room … Am guessing one that erases short term memory (but heightens memories of anything older than a decade ago) … I thought robot technology had advanced in recent years but obviously not

      2. It’s more like what the floor mat in bathroom is like than it is rubber, like four floor mats place together. I know this because I know someone who soundproofed his bedroom with the stuff, before that he used egg cartons and went around the estate asking everyone for their egg cartons before getting the rubber room.

  12. Yes we can respond tomorrow BUT Sunday’s match was meaningful. It was for a TROPHY. Beating City today is almost meaningless because they have won the Premiership too and we are highly unlikely to turn a win into finishing in the Top 4. Our team mainly our defense is not good enough. City are also in with a shout in 3 other trophies (actually 2 because they have won the PL more or less).

    1. All those people saying mickey mouse this and etc etc, it showed they were not being totally truthful in how they took that loss. If they were honest they would admit that beating city in the final and getting a cup for our troubles is not as meaningless as they make out. It’s just that it doesn’t fall in line with 90% of what they say on a regular basis.

  13. First half was tight, but that was because both teams failed to take the initiative not because we went toe to toe with them. Second half the best team won, just say it Wenger it wont kill you, say we were poor and city deserved their win. Say we done well in cup finals lately but we let ourselves down on this occasion, then say how you blame yourself for allot of it and tell us what you think was the biggest mistake you made and how you will try to rectify that. Tell us you are bringing in a new no2 one the fans are in favor of, and you will let him work with the defence with 80 % of their training time. And you will let him work with the entire team defensively for a couple of training sessions and see how it goes, before evaluating everything at the club.
