Will Jack Wilshere be leaving Arsenal to realise World Cup dreams?

It is looking more and more likely that Jack Wilshere will be leaving Arsenal this January as he is desperate to fight his way back into Gareth Southgate’s England team at the World Cup this summer. The 25 year-old is fit and ready but revealed his frustration at not being picked for the recent friendly games against Brazil and Germany.

“Gareth hasn’t rung,” Wilshere said. “He’s got my number and he hasn’t called me yet. If he wants to call me, my phone is always on.

“He didn’t put me in the squad and had that to focus on. He said in the press what he wanted me to do: get in the team and play regularly and that’s what I’m trying to do. That’s all I can do.”

The Three Lions coach has made it clear that Jack will only be considered for selection if he is playing regular first team football, and not only that but he must be playing as a defensive midfielder – which Southgate considers to be his best position. In fact he was Man Of The Match for England for five games in that position before he lost his place to injury, and Jack himself agrees that Wenger is wrong about playing him as a Number 10. “If Gareth sees me in that position, I have to play in that position,” he said.

“To be honest, that is probably my favourite position. I can see where he is coming from. I enjoy playing there. At the moment, I’m playing a bit higher here.

“I’ve said before that I want to stay here and play. I don’t have to say how much this club means to me.

“But at the same time as well, the boss has got to be honest with me and I’m sure he will.”

Wenger reckons that Wilshere cannot play for the Gunners as a defensive mid, and has clearly stated he is in competition with Ozil and Alexis instead, which means that he has little chance of getting in the starting XI anyway. So it looks like we will just have to accept that Wilshere will be leaving in January, or giving up on his World Cup dreams….

  1. I think Southgate is right, because Wilshere doesn’t have nicer ideas than Ozil and he is not as skillful as Sanchez. He cannot handle heavy pressures well in Ozil’s or Sanchez’s position in the 3-4-2-1 formation, but maybe he could play better in a deeper position, like Cazorla.

His best chance of playing as a central deep midfielder would depend on the current midfielders’ fitness. His build and spirit are similar to Kante’s, so it would be worth it to try him out in that position, in some cup games.

It is too late for him to think about the World Cup. He had better focus on his club career and contract extension in Arsenal.

  2. IMO Jack will stay if Ozil leaves in Jan.
Interestingly he wants to have an “honest” talk with Wenger. Even Lucas Perez said that Wenger had made false promises to him!
Hmm what does this say about our manager …
I’m quite sure he’d lied to Ozil & Alexis about the club’s ambitions before signing them.

    1. It appears that Wenger never wanted Perez and he was never in the plans….

We need a striker and Probably Gazaidis and the Finance team could not sign Vardy or Laca

      Hence Perez was signed…..

We will never know till Gazadis or Wenger reveal the truth…..

      1. I have learned from bitter experience over many years past, NEVER to believe a single word either Wenger or Gazidis ever says. Al least snake Kroenke can’t lie, since he is apparently, mute

  3. Even in fc Bournemouth he wasn’t regular. He can go wherever he wants but he wont be regular.stupid English overrated player(English league two player)

  4. I think jacks chance to break back into the starting 11 will depend on either Ozil or Sanchez moving on in January or sufficient amount of injuries to the midfield to the point Wenger us few other choices other than to start jack. I can see Wenger simple picking him above the current crop of players.

I like jack but I can’t see him becoming an automatic starter.

  5. its time to bring back the good old times

    The French Flairs…..

but it seems like we are going German….

    The German efficiency

    1. Nationalist stereotypes are stupid, uneducated and wrong. If , in life you have not learned that simple truth , then you have clearly not travelled or learned much. Viera was French and had both flair and efficiency , as have most of our better quality French players. Ozil, by your reckoning, cannot have flair, only efficiency since he is GERMAN. In fact, more often than not he shows flair but far less efficiency. Perhaps, he said ( in the hope of showing the idiocy of national borders on “types” of people) if you are born right on the German / French border , you must have both flair and efficiency! Try using your brain!

  6. I think Jacks best position is in Xhakas place, he has the qualities similar to santi.

Coq played in his best position as a DM alongside Wilshire in the first 11 is what I want to see.

I don’t care what others think, I think this would benefit us.

Or Wilshire and Ramsey with Wilshire playing deep, he is better than Xhakas defensively.

  7. Jack and Coq please Wenger, and try Ramsey higher is Ozil does not continue to perform.

One good game is not good enough, but let’s see what happens

  8. Honestly, I think he and everyone is putting a lot of pressure on him and the only yard stick they have is playing for the national team. This is a player that has been injured for the better part of his career, so who’s fault is that? Even when he went to Bournemouth! What if he goes to another club and he still doesn’t get called up? I think his first priority and that of anyone that really loves him is to to stay injury free at least a season! Even if you are like the best player in the world and you get injured everytime you still will not play regularly in a team. So if he wants to leave because of England call up I wish him luck!
