Arsenal legend comes out in support of Unai Emery

Thierry Henry urges Arsenal to give Emery time and concentrate on top-four.

Former Gunners legend, Thierry Henry has urged the club to give Unai Emery more time and be more realistic with their short term ambitions.

After reaching the final of the Europa League last season, Arsenal fans were hoping to end this season inside the top four, but they are already eight points behind fourth-placed Man City and the season has only just begun.

Henry, who remains Arsenal’s highest ever goalscorer, believes Emery or whoever took over from Arsene Wenger was never going to get it right immediately, and he is preaching patience among the Arsenal faithful.

Henry admitted that he never thought a club like Leicester City would be challenging for the top four and that Arsenal should just focus on making themselves more competitive.

“What can I tell you about Arsenal’s season? It’s a tough one because you can put Tottenham and Manchester United in that bracket of teams that are struggling at the minute,” Henry told Omnisport s cited by Goal.

“People didn’t expect Leicester to do what they are doing.

“Arsenal, it’s been a little while – or a very little while – that we haven’t been in the Champions League so for me as an Arsenal fan what I want to see is them, first and foremost, go back into the bracket of the teams that are going to be in the Champions League.”

I am not sure that even Henry can turn the fans around from their current stance. The only thing that can do that is a long winning run.

To be honest, that is not looking likely.
