Arsenal rumour roundup – Cazorla, Turan, Rahman and Podolski

A look at the latest Arsenal transfer rumours involve a possible bid for Santi Cazorla from Atletico Madrid, interest in Baba Rahman and the departure of Lukas Podolski.

First to the big news; this may actually irk many supporters. The Spanish giants Atletico Madrid are reported to be mulling over a bid for Santi Cazorla. This is part of their plans to look for a possible replacement to Arda Turan.

The Turkey international has already announced his intentions of leaving the club. He even proclaimed that there are three-four clubs interested and the discussions are going. Latest rumours coming out of Spain claimed that he was in talks with Barcelona and close to a deal with them.

But the 28-year old Turan was quick to dismiss these rumours and announce that he is still discussing with various clubs. However, the entire scenario meant that Atletico will have to plan for his departure.

Cazorla has been linked with a move to the Vicente Calderon for the past three summers. Turan’s expected departure could make Atletico more determined to seal his signature.

The Spanish mid-field wizard has one year remaining on his contract with the Gunners. But, he is coming off a wonderful season at the Emirates stadium. Having started 33 league games last term, he endeared himself to the supporters with stellar performances.

For many critics and supporters, Cazorla is one of the club’s best players of the last season. Analysts were quick to add these two stories and come up with the news that Cazorla and Turan will be swapping places. It still is very early to call it as anything more than a fancy rumour.

Meanwhile, Wenger has been told that signing Baba Rahman from the German side Augsburg will cost him £14 million. The Ghana international is one of the reasons why Augsburg finished as high as fifth in the Bundesliga last season.
Wenger is reportedly behind the 21-year-old for quite some time and would definitely be interested in a bid. However there are other clubs also interested including Chelsea and Manchester City. Again, nothing concrete at this stage on this rumour.

Finally, Lukas Podolski is close to joining the Turkey side Galatasaray. He joined Arsenal from the German side FC Koln in 2012. Last season was a big disappointment for him as he struggled for game time; first half of the season at Arsenal and the second half on loan at Inter. Galatasaray definitely provides a new challenge for him.

    1. Baba Rahman?…… Sorry!…. But maybe we can only negotiate a swap deal…… Hafiz Rahman for Baba Rahman….. Everyone goes home happy!

    2. I have watched baba play a couple of times. He is pure quality with lots of strength. Would be an amazing signing, but can we beat Chelsea and city for his signature???

      1. Cazorla is going nowhere cuz he knows how close we are to winning the bpl. He would want to add another silverware before leaving the club.he deserves to lift the bpl. I think yesterday someone mentioned shaqiri joining Stoke, he would have been a great replacement for podolski and a great squad player. Sad to miss out on him, he has a bright future and built for the premiere league. His style of play fits us, why didn’t we make a move for him???

  1. 3/4 of those i don’t see happening.

Cazorla is staying, he is central to Arsenal’s plans this season. He is probably along with Koscielny our most important player.

Podolski i think is confirmed that he is joining Galatasaray.

I don’t think Baba Rahman will join Arsenal, he is very very good but unless Gibbs is leaving which i doubt, i don’t see it happening.

Turan i think will not join Arsenal, i am not sure if he will quit Atletico but with the depth of Arsenal’s attacking midfield i very much doubt Turan would be signed. He may still leave this summer.

  2. ALas! We are being Linked with pedro again……. I will hate this transfer to be real…. He was a regular bench player …..instead he choose to sign a new contract weeks back, only to want out(when he could have just walked away for lil or nothing)….. Silly!…. Oh so he wants barca to make more money off his sale huh!…..not sure this young man wanna play football…… We would be so stupid to negotiate

  3. Cazorla is not for sale. Athletico wont pay mad money required to buy him…so no bugger off diego.
Dont really know baba, anyone seen him in action?

I reckon wenger is gonna wait . Waiting got him mesut last minute an alexis. Risky tactic but who knows

    1. Muff seeking green ticks?
      Wenger got Sanchez EARLY.
      He got Wellbeck LATE.
      He hesitated and lost Suarez.
He should’ve sold Podolski but left it too late.
He was gonna move Diaby on but gave he and Ryo another year.
Inter wanted Campbell but he hung on to him.
He left it too late to buy a DM and CB and what happened?
Sell injury prone Wilshere for 40 mill and Chamberlain for 30 mill.
We don’t need them as players or as home grown.
Keep Rosicky and Arteta who are more reliable and offer more.
Keep Gnabry as he is younger and on a lower salary
      Sell Flamini too.

      1. u started your claims well…….. you messed it up halfway…. And then you ended it well

      1. Griezmann?…… The boy’s Good…. And Younger……. Now that’s what we call a deal…….. But again, we could just bid for him and keep carzola *winks* …… Unless he (carzola) wishes so much to go…A swap deal must not be against his will………

        1. Now…that will be a dream come true…having Griezman, and keeping Carzola.
It’s kinda obvious that Carzola wants to stay at Arsenal…and the dude’s awesome.
So, I say keep him. 🙂

  4. I would like if we got Baba Rahman. Would love for him to become our best ever left back so when i write up my all time best Arsenal team… i dont have to include A Cole.

Cazorla shouldnt be going anywhere but we know what Arsene and the board are like when theres a chance of a pay off especially considering he is in his final year. Hope he signs a two year extension.

  5. No way…Carzola has to stay.
However, IF (and that’s a BIG IF) there has to be a swap for a player…I’ll say Antoine Grizman.

  6. the curse of the 9 strikes again poor poldi had no chance, whoever wears it next is a brave man.

    1. True buddy…
Poldi had a pretty good run though. 31 goals in 82 appearances.
I wish him all the best in his next team.
I wonder who our new no. 9 will be.

  7. why did we sign flamini-he was free, sanogo he was free, podolski free.all these are deadwoods and the reasons we didnt get Dm&striker.I remember wenger say sanogo will make headlines on the pitch, sign cheap players save money for club owners in the bank remain remain just relevant in competitions-thats wengers policy

    1. Podolski cost 10m I thought though chamakh was free park and scillaci were bought giroud change …. None panned out … Griezman would not come cheap but would throw in cazorla Campbell and a few million …. Buy a quality DM offload flamini and rozicky… And think we would be in with a shout nect year
      Czech
      Bellerin Gabriel kos darmian
      Wilshere Carvalho
      Griezman ozil Sanchez
      Giroud/welbeck/whippet (depending on opposition)

Still clear where our weak spot is but think this would be serious contenders

  8. Turan is a player who gets linked with a move away from Atletico every summer. Although I think he will move this summer just not to us. He’s a quality player and a player I’d have liked at arsenal a couple of seasons ago but not now. I think for all the positions he can play in we have players who are just as effective as him. Pedro on the other hand I think would be a fantastic addition he would occupy similar positions to Turan but more of a wide forward, Turan being more of an wide attacking midfielder. Pedro offers a goal threat that Turan doesn’t and can play either wing. Think he’ll stay at Barca tho.

Podolski medical this afternoon so expect an announcement of his departure either later today or tomorrow morning.

I cant see us buying a left back although say Wenger bought someone like Vidal then played a narrow midfield then wanted to use more of a wing back type of fullback then it could make sense.
    ————–Cech————–
    Bellerin – Gab – Kos – Baba
    ————Vidal—————-
    —-Ramsey-Cazorla——–
    ————-Ozil—————-
    ——-Walcott-Alexis——–

Putting Alexis in a free role with Ozil playing behind Walcott with Bellerin and Baba playing as wing backs with quite a narrow midfield. Could easily rotate players we have in that midfield Jack, the ox, Rosicky. Just a thought very unlikely to happen. I think we already have two very good left backs.

    1. Still looks very auspicious seeing Cech in there.
Even when i see him wearing Arsenal kit it looks very odd, can only picture him wearing blue.
The bluest players for me were always Terry, Drogba, Wise, Le Saux, Ivanovic and Cech.

  9. Wenger signed podolski, sanogo, famini because they were free, they are now all deadwoods.I remember wenger saying sanogo will make headlines on the pitch,he was the reason afobe was sold. Also no dm and st for some time now bcuz of their space.Cheap and free player to save money for club owners in the bank remain rich club and relevant in cometitions, thats wengers policy!

  10. Come Alexis win the Copa America!! Looking forward to seeing you outshine Messi etc haha. Good luck

  11. Santiago Cazola is said to have only a year left before his current deal runs out at Arsenal. Will the Boss offers him a new deal? Or would Cazorla wants his deal to rundown and then leave? Would the Boss preferred to sell Cazorla now to stop him going for free after next season? Furtherstill, would Cazorla be tempted to wait to see if he will be among the Gunners brigade that will likely win the BPL title and other ones? Anything is possible and only time and the Boss can tell us which of the above options is preferable to him and Cazorla too.

  12. Anyone who thinks Carzola isn’t leaving even if a good bid come in for him is simply fooling themselves. Love him but at 30, one year left, spoken of his desire to “one day return home”, points to a willingness to accept the right transfer. Lest be honest, would you sacrifice your future midfield (Ramsey & Wilshere) if they say play me at the CM position or sell me? just to note, that how we ended up with Petr Chec I think if Athleti come in with a bid that allows Arsenal to at least break even, he will be sold. Just my opinion.

    1. I agree. If we get an offer that is good enough we should sell. I wouldn’t shop him around but listen to offers and only sell for a high price. I love Cazorla but Arsenal was here before him, and will be here after he is gone.

  13. Cazorla from winger to CAM to CM. Very soon he’ll be playing centreback. Oh wait! He did play centreback once last season I think 😀
