Arsenal star’s reaction to derby loss shows RIGHT spirit

There is a saying that Arsenal fans might want to think about as we try to get over the pain of losing to our north London rivals Tottenham for the first time since goals from Bale and Lennon beat us at White Hart Lane nearly two years ago. The saying goes, ‘show me a good loser and I will show you a loser’.

That previous defeat was a time of real pressure on Arsene Wenger and the players as it left us below the spuds, having been knocked out of both domestic cups by Bradford and Blackburn and having lost at home to Bayern Munich in the Champions League. The Gunners responded to that intense pressure by beating Bayern in Germany in the next game and by winning eight and drawing two of our remaining Premier League games.

We need something similar from the lads this time, although we are still in Europe and the FA cup. Now is the time for them to stand up and be counted. That is why I was pleased to hear how much the derby defeat had hurt our England international forward Danny Welbeck, in an Arsenal.com report.

Welbeck said, “The boys are devastated to lose the game and it’s not nice for us to come here and lose the derby. It’s a massive game for the whole club, the fans and it’s something that we’re really disappointed about.

“We came here with good confidence and we thought that we could get the three points today. We went ahead, started well and then tailed off towards the end.

“As a team, going forward we didn’t do as well as we could have done and they took advantage of that. It was really disappointing and on a personal level it was difficult for me to get back in the swing of things after being out for a few weeks.

“That’s a plus point in football. We’ve got a couple of days turnover and then we’ve got another game in the Premier League, so we’ve got to prepare well for that game.”

It is vital for Arsenal to bounce back and beat Leicester and as long as his Arsenal team mates are as hurt by the Spurs defeat as Welbeck, then we should see amuch better performance and result on Tuesday. If they really feel devastated by defeat, it will make sure they try their hardest to not let it happen again.

  1. Not like he is gonna say
“Who cares I get paid 60k
    this week anyway”.
    Well not in public.
    But prvately?

  2. Yes the boys should feel bad about their performance. They have led down the fans and also the manager. Yes many people are finding fault of Wenger, but it is the team who must own the responsibility. No one really stood up to the challenge. We lost the battle in the midfield.
Defense was at fault of both the goals. Spurs were the better team. One or two substitution would not have made any difference.
Its a massive loss for us. If we had won this we might have shout of the title.
Although we will still make it to the top 4, the title is all but over.
We need a massive response against Leister. City dropped points. Hope few of other top teams drop points also, just to compensate the loss a bit.

  3. It will be good if we can know or at least the boss should find out why did some Gunners dropped-off in their high level of perfomance. Are they tired, didn’t they sleep well, did they eat some kind of food (salad) that made them later weak and sleepy, or is it because they were overconfident of winning the game after taking the lead, or did the Gunners lacked the added firepower of Alexis? No Gooner expected the Gunners will chickenly capitulated after 56 munites into the game while they were leading. I think the boss was at a fault by not first and foremost played a 2 DM in the persons of Flamini and Coquelin to start the game. Every game has it’s own complextion. The Spurds are inform and ambitious for a 4th place finish. They have even beaten Chelsea in the League at the Lane. And are going to play the Capital One Cup final with the same Chelsea at Wembly. But it appeared the Gunners failed to recognise that Spurs has a good team to beat at home. I think the Gunners took the Spuds for granted.

  4. Ok guys…there are still large no of games to go…Since the lads are feeling bad…Now they must react and turn things around…We have a run of winnable games now…Get all three points in those games..Get a place in the top 4..Show some guts and passion in the champions league and thrash AS Monaco…COYG..And yes one thing to say…No player was showing the fighting spirit in yesterdays important match…thats why we needed players like Alexis and Wilshere who are real gooners…

  5. As painful as it is for me to say this, but I think this was a necessary evil we had to experience… An massive eye opener for the staff, the manager, the players, and fans.

  6. Also pains me to say as every game goes by the more I see the need for more dominant physical players especially in the middle of the park… Not saying we should or ever will get Pogba but players of his presence… Funny Viera and Gilberto Silva comes to mind.

  7. Reality kicks in when I also realize that Spurs have the first clear opportunity to a trophy this season. They’ve beaten Chelsea worst this season and I see no reason why they can’t do it again. Absolutely rough time for me as an Arsenal fan but we must come back from this…

  8. Feel sorry for Leicester they are gona get the gunners backlash could be a villa score line as long as we win don’t care how many we score!!

    1. Yes – they must be bricking it…

Arsenal are not to be feared anymore.

They are sadly a pale reflection of what they once was.

Back then we had players who would bleed for the club. Now we have players who just bleed the club.

None of them would get into the invincible team – and that includes Sanchez…

  9. I really like that Welbz said “we thought that we could get the three points today.” That means they got cocky before the game, something you can never do in any sport.

We have BPL, FA, and UCL matches in February. I think yesterday’s debacle will lead to a better focus of what lies ahead.

    1. i dont think thinking u can get 3 pts means u are cocky. maybe we were a bit, but looking at the game, what i most saw was a lack of intensity compared to spuds. we were defending ok, but completely not able to hold the ball in midfield and thats a b2b failure. roziscky should take over for ramsey for now.

  10. I’M NOT AN EXPERT BUT FROM YESTERDAY’S GAME WENGER SHOULD HAVE BEEN MORE RUTHLESS IN HIS DECISION MAKING.THE PROBLEM WAS THAT WE WERE DEFENDING VERY DEEP AND WE WERE UNABLE TO TRASITION(SWITCH BETWEEN DEF MODE AND ATTACK MODE).THAT DUTY LIES ON CARZOLA AND RAMSEY BUT TOTTENHAM HAD A MORE PHYSICAL MIDFIELD AS WE COULD SEE DEMBELE,MASON,MUSCLING OUT OUR CREATIVE MIDFILDER.WE LOST ALL THE MODFIELD BATTLES.WHAT SHOULD HAVE BEEN DONE IS SIMPLE.PULL OUT RAMSEY,BRING IN ROSICKY TO PARTNER COQUELIN.PULL CARZOLA WIDE(TO THE LEFT),BRING IN WALCOTT FOR GIROUD,MOVE WELLBECK TO CF AND LET OZIL PLAY THE CAM ROLE.NOW THIS WOULD DISTABILISE TOTHNAM MIDFIELD BECOS OZIL HAS BETTER ”OFF THE BALL MOVEMENT THAN CARZOLA”.NOW WALCOTT ON THE RIGHT,WELZ MIDDLE SANTI ON THE LEFT WOULD DRAW OUT DEMB,MASON,BENTALEB OUT OF POSITION .WELL THIS IS FOR FUTURE REFERENCE.REMEMBER THE BEST WAY TO BEAT TOTTENHAM IS TO USE THE WINGS.

  11. The lads tried, but I think Weber didn’t read the game well enough. Our initial game plan was to defend and counter attack, and this didn’t work, I expected a change of tactis in d 2nd half.
Over all we did tried our best. COYG
