Two of the most criticised players at Arsenal last season were Mesut Ozil and Shkodran Mustafi, both were regularly slammed because of their dire displays and it really is not a surprise that the club has decided they need to be sent packing.
But the problem is this, no one wants them.
Arsenal doesn’t want them, the vast majority of the fans don’t want them but worst of all is that no other club wants them either.
The Evening Standard is claiming that Unai Emery wants to offload the pair in order to raise funds but as of yet neither has attracted any concrete interest and The Sun has gone further and stated that not a single club has approached Arsenal about the pair.
They further claim that we are now prepared to subsidise Ozil wages in order to see him gone.
Now, this is not actually about Ozil or Mustafi, it could be any of our players because when you have two players with international experience playing for a top-six Premier League side and no one wants them then you know something has gone badly wrong somewhere.
I mean, players with much less ability than these two in lower leagues can attract buyers and yes, of course, Ozil and Mustafi have large wages but even so, in this day and age with so much money sloshing around you have to think there is a club out there that can find a place for these two, are they really that toxic?
I do not think they are, for starters, it is thought that some Turkish clubs would love to sign Ozil and if we are prepared to subsidise his wages then why have they not come in for him and surely there is a Bundesliga club that would welcome Mustafi into their ranks.
There has to be more to this than what we are not seeing, it just does not make sense.
I know that both players had bad seasons and that they may no longer be Arsenal class but they are West Ham class or Monaco class or Atalanta class, I don’t know, they can definitely do a job for someone, somewhere, surely?
