Official teams and preview of Anderlecht v Arsenal

Arsene Wenger has had a few key decisions to make over the last few days, but most of them are about how to ensure that Arsenal are stronger defensively than we have been of late. The attacking and creating side of the game has been pretty much okay, but we need to have that solid platform o build on to make sure that we beat Anderlecht tonight.

A win is a must if the Gunners are to keep the hopes of winning the group over Borussia Dortmund alive. So as expected the Frenchman has kept our most combative midfielder Mathieu Flamini in the starting line up. And having Aaron Ramsey back in the middle with the in form Jack Wilshere should also help to protect that back four.

The other big decision Wenger has made is to keep Monreal in the centre and use Chambers to replace Bellerin at right back. He has also resisted the pressure to play Lukas Podolski, with Santi Cazorla likely to start on the left. At least the German striker has made the bench this time.

    2. Arsenal will settle for draw as long as Jack and ramsey plays in the middle together while CaSolar plas from d left and rosicky and campbell on d bench… If not a lost……Wenger out still goes ON

  2. I used to admire our midfield but wow does it look weak now, change needed for sure (attitude/manager/player or all)

When the team lacks footballing discipline this is what you get, if the opposition jams the midfield you dont keep trying playing through the middle you do something else this is a no brainer,if the opposition can predict your movements you switch around and try to confuse them simple as that!! comeooon “insanity is doing the same thing repeatedly while expecting different results”. If there are no changes to our system we are going to surfer very hard this season every player will look poor while that is not the case

    & once again wenger playing cazorla on the wing, ramsey and wilshere playing together and the wrong formation, he never learns

  6. wenger will never change, ramsey and wilshere back together in the starting line up in his wonderful 4-1-4-1 formation. Seriously wenger does not know how to fully utilize his squad, wilshere should not be starting this game, campbell is meant to start on the right wing in place of chamberlain after his short cameo in the weekend, ramsey beside flamini and cazorla in the attacking midfield role. Anyways, hoping for a victory.. 1-0 will even do.

  9. This line-up irritates me because it could be far more interesting and effective. Monreal as CB instead of Chambers???? Is this simply because Bellerin has no “experience”, well, considering Monreal is short and not a CB himself and Bellerin has played well in every single outing I don’t understand how he can justify this at all. Then there is the ramsey wilshere combination that rarely works, and the fact that we have put a very slow Cazorla on the wing instead of in the centre. We are not at home meaning even though we will have good possession counter-attacking is the most effective approach which means pace on the wings. Campbell was very good when he came on against hull and again he doesn’t start, Ox was poor but I would still pick him over Wilshere if it means we don’t sacrifice the opportunity to inject pace on the wings when we need it.

    Urgh… so tired of this new Arsenal, either do something that will have us challenge for the PL/CL or play football that is interesting and attacking but stop with this boring tika crap (that even Pep is against despite his Tika being far more effective) that is still getting us top 4.

    1. Even if he is “that important” to the team, at least he would have been preserved till the weekend as ramsey is available. Either playing ppl out of position or over them…

  21. Anderlecht are playing high up enough to try a ball over the top, but Arsenal always seem reluctant to do it. We a lays try to keep the ball on the floor when going forward. Fair enough, when Giroud is up top, he won’t be able to run on to them, but Welbeck is more than quick enough.

    And Corzola on the left???. He’s a wonderful player but he’s not on the left, when the ball breaks he’s always in the middle.

  59. Cazorla at no.10 please.
    Wilshere still needs to learn from cazorla and ozil. Why is he our first choice no.10 when he’s still so young, and underdeveloped while we have cazorla on the wing.
    I hope both ozil and cazorla hand in transfer requests. This is so frustrating.
    BTW, even Campbell and ox should do the same. We have two superb wingers but they aren’t fielded by the manager.

  67. When you have Sanchez, Walcott, Campbell, Oxlade Chamberlain, Welbeck there is no need to put Ozil or Cazorla on the wings. They are number 10s and top quality at that position

  73. Wenger has a stubborn obsession with some players. Like he had with Bendtner. Wilshere is not playing well this season. If someone is not playing well you don’t start with them. Players should earn a starting position. I would take off Wilshere, put Cazorla in the centre and pur Campbell or Ox on wing with Sanchez on the opposite wing
