Poll: The rumours will spin but where should Arsenal strengthen?

The winter transfer window is just around the corner, but do Arsenal need to add to their squad? For a number of seasons we have all been crying out for a new centre forward, but with Alexis Sanchez relishing his new role there, and with Olivier Giroud, Lucas Perez and the imminent return of Danny Welbeck in the squad, that is no longer our obvious weakness.

The Chilean’s switch there may mean that you think we need to bolster his former position out wide instead, and there have been links to Julian Draxler, although the fee likely to be demanded by Wolfsburg is likely to be rather high. Alex Iwobi or a new-and-improved Oxlade-Chamberlain may reduce the need for more in those positions however.

Granit Xhaka was added to our midfield ranks but has so far failed to nail down a regular first-team role, while Santi Cazorla being in his final season of his contract could lead you to want extra oomph to our central positions.

Centre-back and in goal are surely our strongest positions, with Cech and Ospina among the best shot-stoppers in the division, while Mustafi and Koscielny must surely rate amongst the best CB pairings in the Premier Leagua also! Rob Holding is really impressing me also, and I would not have any concerns should he have to fill in for either of them this term.

Our full-back roles are somewhere to look at, with Nacho Monreal turning 31 in February, and with Debuchy definitely in his last season, not to mention the wealth of injuries currently challenging us at right-back.

Where would you be looking to strengthen next month, if anywhere?

Do Arsenal need to sign anyone to the first-team in January?

  1. We actually have cover for each and every position, so there’s no need to rush in the market. Let’s take our time and buy wisely when summer arrived, by then we know the clear picture of who is going out.

  2. we need a player that ll give us that edge or X-factor against Chelsea in d title race as they look like the only contender with no weakness.
I’ll prefer a Leftwinger of WorldClaSs status.
Reus ll be perfect if we can get his injury-history fixed like we finally did for RvP.

  3. We are in the embarrassing position of virtually having adequate cover for every position apart from Ozil’s. The key word in my first sentence is ‘adequate’. Yes we have players that can play Ozil’s role but they will be much less effective than Ozil and the team as a whole will be severely weakened IMO.

  4. Let’s be honest. the way Chelski has adapted to their 3-4-3 formation has made them strong and the only way to beat them is the way Shity did for most of the part ( pacy wingers ). If we get Draxler who is just 23 years old with bright future and market value. we can rest Alexis and why not Ozil playing Draxler behind OG – Perez or Theo in chage formtation but also looking for the future. OG will be in his 31st and there are not many strikers in the market who we can approach at decent price.

  5. I think our RB position is a worry for me considering the standard that Bellerin has set there and CM can be considered wer a physically built player in the shape of kondogbia won’t be a bad fit incase we play teams who want to bully us physically.
