Report – Arsenal reignites their interest in Aston Villa star

During the summer of 2022, Arsenal made several attempts to secure the services of Douglas Luiz, but Aston Villa remained steadfast and did not part ways with the Brazilian midfielder.

Luiz was the player that Mikel Arteta desired to reinforce his midfield options at the Emirates, but an agreement with Villa proved elusive. In response, Luiz extended his contract with Aston Villa and has since established himself as one of the Premier League’s standout midfielders under the guidance of Unai Emery.

Now, as reported by Express Sport, Arsenal has rekindled their interest in acquiring Luiz. The Gunners are anticipating the need for new midfield additions in the January transfer window or at the end of the season, particularly if players like Thomas Partey and Jorginho depart the club.

Luiz would be an ideal signing, and Arteta remains keen on working with the Brazilian, who previously played for Manchester City. However, Villa, with their ambitions, won’t make it easy for Arsenal to secure Luiz’s services, and the Gunners must be prepared to meet Villa’s demands with a substantial transfer fee.

Just Arsenal Opinion

Luiz has been one of the most impressive midfielders in the Premier League for a long time and will impact our team.

But Villa has been successful recently and it will be difficult for them to lose a key player to us now unless we pay a huge fee for his signature.

  1. Am not sure Arsenal need this Brazilian who will no doubt come with a decent price tag.

But yes there is room in the position he plays at Arsenal.

  2. The midfielders Arsenal needs next season, the 2024/25 season(when Elneny,Jorginho & Partey are likely to step down) are Javi guerra of Valencia, Youssouf Fofana of Monoca and our own Charlie Patino). This is a midfield with height and sharpness.

  4. He is a great player and would add to our squad but not at the expense of Partey, he is simply quality and I have no idea why he didn’t get minutes last weekend unless he is still carrying an injury, in which case he should not be on the bench.

  5. We should keep Partey to the end of his contract. Patino plays slightly more forward, I do believe Patino will have to work on his defensive game and his positioning before making the leap up to the Arsenal. Luiz would be a good solid signing and I think he’d have been a nice change from Xhaka, a good replacement

  6. How much money will it take to prise Luiz away from a well performing, financially sound Aston Villa under the management of Unai Emery?
