We have a new contender for Arsenal’s first signing of the summer (plus video)

It was pedicted the other day that Emery’s first signing of the summer would be the Argentine centre-back Gabriel Martinelli, but today another contender has emerged for that accolade as the Genk winger Leandro Trossard has also announced that he is likely to be on the move this summer, with Arsenal said to be one of the favourites to sign him.

Speaking ahead of Genk’s final match of the season, the 24 year-old said: “Sunday’s game against Standard Liege might be my last one in a Genk shirt.”

That would indicate that he is already in discussions with clubs, which was confirmed by his agent Josy Comhair, who was quoted as saying in November: “I contacted representatives from Arsenal and Tottenham. With Tottenham, nobody wanted to confirm that Trossard is an option, but with Arsenal,”

“They told me that Leandro has a very interesting profile for them and that they have been following him since August.

They ended the phone call with: “They are keeping a close eye on him”.

It was well known in January that the Gunners were trying hard to get a winger, with approaches made for Persic and Carrasco, and with Leandro’s age and excellent form this season, he is a real contender to be our first signing.
