Would Arsenal fans swap Gabriel for Arthur Melo?

Arsenal to pursue signature for Juventus man

Arsenal are believed to return to the negotiating table with Italian giants Juventus In their bid to land Arthur Melo, it has been reported.

The Brazilian was well in the thoughts of the Gunners hierarchy who were determined to land him in the winter transfer window.

However, complicated terms placed by the Old Lady pushed any possible deal to a dead end.

According to journalist Giacomo Iacobellis, the Gunners will come back strongly for the former Barcelona man and are willing to offer better terms to their Italian counterparts.

He further tweeted that Juventus would also like to include Arsenal defender Gabriel in their talks, which hints at a possible swap deal.

Central midfield is one of the positions that definitely needs strengthening, especially when Arsenal have qualified for Europe.

Youri Tielemans is the one name that has strongly been linked to a move to the Emirates Stadium. But with Arsenal looking likely to finish out of a Champions League spot, the deal for the Belgian might be jeopardized.

Melo might be a simpler deal to get over the line, given his willingness to switch Turin for London for more regular playing time.

The 25-year-old has made 63 appearances for Juventus while also recording 22 caps for the Brazilian national team.

There is no doubt regarding his talent. But the real question mark is around his consistency, which has been a hot topic, ever since he was with Barcelona.

It’s still to be seen whether Mikel Arteta will push for the Brazilian’s signature. Although he’s a very technical player, I think the club would be served better elsewhere.

What are your thoughts?

  1. Absolutely not
It’s worrying that we are still being linked to melo a rumour that’s seems to be sticking around .
I’ve read reports that Gabriel is not happy here but again that could just be rumours

    1. Apparently, he just cannot grasp the language. He is misunderstanding instructions and it’s frustrating teammates and coaching staff. As a result he is unhappy in England, unfortunately I fear this rumour is true, not sure how he is going to cope with learning Italian though?

  2. Tielemans or Neves if we add to midfield.

Also, would not let go of Gabriel unless we bring back Saliba.

  3. Said it before if we are to sell Gabriel sell him for no less than £80m buy Taposa bassey and Fabian Ruiz with the money

    1. You really think we would get £80m for someone who wants to leave? More worrying is why would he want to leave? He gets plenty of game time but maybe he wants CL guarantees..

      1. What vagrant we get £80m for him? All us fans go on about is how little we get for our players so sell them for massive prices and spend wisely on replacements. Easily replaced I think plenty more good players about.

  4. This is just the press, there is zero chance Gabriel is leaving..

There are very few quality left footed CBs around so he would be too hard to replace

  5. We would need two players for Gabriel. Gabriel will grow and grow in stature, Melo is another carthorse. We always get second best. Yves Bissouma please, Jonathan David please. Get William Saliba back…..quickly, get a big price for Gabriel and then get Bissouma and David. Melo is a luxury we don’t really need. Better to get James Maddison who is a ‘player’. So sad that Arteta is so fixed that he couldn’t make peace with Matteo Guendouzi, who has become a top midfield player. We will sell him for peanuts, when he should be playing. Arteta is such a shmuck.

  6. No way, this swap would make no sense for Arsenal.

Gabriel is now a marquee defender, he’s shoulder and head above Maguire who has cost £80 mil.

The journalist went on to say Arsenal will return strongly with a better deal, how can that be possible when Melo has less time on his contract and playing less football.

Not sure who is pushing this one, but only for squad depth at about £10 mil, would this purchase make sense

  7. Physicality wise,we need big strong midfielders to compliment Partey,Melo is quite small not physical for what we need,he is a good technical player, but the likes of Danilo,Sangare,Bissouma ,Kamara maybe even would be more required for the premiership,Gabriel has to be kept,if Salina is adamant he wishes to leave,so be it,would be a real shame, but ask top dollar for him, then buy either Tapsoba or Koulibaly to play alongside Gabriel, agree with what Tom Canton said today on goonertalk
Koulibaly would give us that experience.

  8. I do believe that MA WOULD like MELO, but only on the right terms, both financially and not as a Gabriel swap. I do not see GABRIEL LEAVING and predict he will be our defensive mainstay for many future years , even if , as I HOPE AND BELIEVE, Saliba returns and plays alongside him and White as our three CB’s(not necessarily all three at once).

Our likely (99.9% certain, in reality) failure to make CL will cost us some targets we had in mind. Money will not be as freely available as if we had made CL either. I still predict Jesus to come though.

  9. A huge doubt with latest Saliba comments,if true. That he will be back.Another loss on transfer market .Same applies for Bellend,,Torreirra & AMN.All returning. What a clusterf***.As for the midget Melo.A big NO.Juve are absolutely taking the piss with that one & expect us to swap Gabriel.Tell them to f** k off Sharpish.

  10. We ended up without a real midfield towards the end of the season. Completely crazy considering Torreira and Guendouzi were playing away on loan. They would have done us better than the end of season rubbish we were infected with. All because Arteta could not get on with two good players. Pure inability to have normal relations for Arteta, no wisdom, no tactical nous, total mad micro-management from the touchline, OCD control freak every moment of every match. Who can be themselves and play under that level of micro-management? We will have years of this to come.

  11. Beware of Greeks (Italians) bearing gifts. They want want Gabriel because he is a top defender. Keep him

  12. only if we’re the dumbest team in the footballing world…we have enough defensive concerns to deal with already without further complicating matters, as I’m not convinced that the Saliba is coming back to North London, especially considering the inherent baggage and the fact that Marseille have already qualified for the CL…maybe a rather sizeable miracle, or two, can happen today which could help in this regards

  13. Athur Melo is IMO an overrated player, who doesn,t play many games. Why are we after him?

  14. Abdolutely not. Actually, I do not think Arsenal should get anywhere near him.
    Not suitable for PL.
