Did Arsenal dodge a MASSIVE bullet against Foxes?

At the end of the Premier League season this game against Leicester City will just be three points on our total. And even if those points do not turn out to be crucial in the grand scheme of things, I think that wining this game could be.

To be perfectly honest Arsenal were lucky to beat a very good Foxes team that missed a few great chances both before we scored and after as they almost came back from 2-0 down. Even though I’m sure Arsene Wenger would have warned against complacency, he and the players were clearly surprised at how ell the bottom Premier League side played, especially Kramaric and Mahrez.

On another day or with better finishing or luck they would have got a result and it would have left the Gunners in a real pickle after the derby defeat on Saturday. Confidence would have been knocked and the fans would have been up in arms, never mind the league position. As it was, a few moments of class from Ozil, Koscielny and Walcott along with some defensive grind helped us dodge that big bullet heading our way.

We have a few days now to recover and plan for the FA cup and then another week before the next league game against Crystal Palace. The Gunners will need to play better than tonight and I’m sure we will but for now Arsenal fans should be more relieved than concerned about what happened against Leicester.

  1. I must say leicester city did put up one hell of a fight! If we didnt dig deep enough in the last half hour or so, they could have come away from the emirates with a draw and a point or worst a win!

  2. I pray that everything is ok and not serious with “rambo” and alexis with important fixtures coming up such as our fa cup game with middlesborough, championsleague clash with monaco and crystal palace who are playing well, i just cant handle any new injuries!

  3. Tactics were poor, team selection poor, and subs ridiculous. We scraped past the bottom of the table side, who were typically spirited as most relegation battlers are. Our quality was nonexistent and in the end we hung on.

Yet more cracks hit with the paper treatment.

    1. I don’t agree @champagne charlie. It is all in the mind. When you lose a game, you are usually more nervous and a bit out of sorts in your next game. Confidence and swagger come from winning your games and a loss usually makes you doubt your self a bit. Forget about their league position. We played a good team. The difference in quality between the teams in the epl is not much. So on any given day, anybody can beat anybody. So I will take the three points and move on. These guys are fighting for their lives to stay in the premier league. They wouldn’t just show up for a match, bend over and take it in the rear. No sir. So it wasn’t our best performance but I will take the the three points. Yes I will.

      1. Don’t lecture me on how confidence and swagger come about on a football pitch.
Is it in the mind to have no pattern in your attacks?
Is it in the mind to play with no tempo?
Is it in the mind to have Per in the team?
Is it in the mind to bring Ramsey on when he’s borderline injured only to compound it?

Everyone knows the bottom 3 teams always scrap. But when they can out fight a team who just got roasted by their biggest rivals it’s embarrassing. We will likely make top 4, but if we don’t make significant changes in the summer we will repeat this same average standard next year. “The difference in quality between the EPL teams is not much” – Uhmm should be more than what we saw today. Bottom line.

    1. We have 3 players for each position
      GK- Ospina, Szczesny, Martinez
      RB- Debuchy, Bellerin, Chambers
      CD- Koscielny, Gabriel, Hayden
      CD- Mertsacker, Chambers, Debuchy
      LB- Gibbs, Monreal, Gabriel
      DM- Coquelin, Bielik, Flamini, Diaby
      B2B- Ramsey, Arteta, Wilshere
      LW- Sanchez, Welbeck, Ozil
      RW- Walcott, Oxlade, Gnabry
      CAM- Ozil, Cazorla, Rosicky
      Striker- Giroud, Welbeck, Akpom

  4. Good to get the win people will moan about the performance but in all fairness were pretty good at gettin results against opposition like this when not playing well , just look at city hull last week liverpool villa earlier in the season . Hopefully the injuries are not to serious we can cope against boro this weekend so that gives us 11 days till palace hopefully a quick recovery

    1. Now to stay there after tomorrow night United need to lose or draw (we have better goal difference- I think).

Southampton has a better goal difference. Seriously, this race for 3rd and 4th place is so tight goal difference may be an issue.

We NEED to score mote goals. Should have happened yesterday. We played at home to the bottom side.

      1. Burnley will get mauled by De Gea Utd….

they have players like Falcao and RVP…they guarantee goals…

and super goalie De Gea saves Utd multiple times….

  5. It seems that the Man City game tactics don’t work too well when Cazorla and Özil are both on the field. We had composure, pace, campact, defence by numbers, width and overall great football against Shitty we didn’t have any of that against the Spuds and once again lastnight when we were playing a defensive game. The problem isn’t Özil but the game plan used, this defensive game doesn’t suit certain player’s hence we end up hanging on for dear life or penultimately lose a game we are leading. Can the technical team please look into this. Well that’s my 2 pounds worth of analysis

  6. what is happening to bellerin? 🙁 🙁 cant arsenal players just be consistent???
well, but with their inconsistent coach who at one point is unbeaten a whole season n another point goes trophiless 9yrs, mayb inconsistency is jst part of the team 🙁 🙁 🙁

  7. The team didn’t play that good but we got three points, that’s what was important AND THE CHICKENS LOST OF-COURSE! Big up to balotelli for the goal.
It’s bad luck we are getting injuries to the likes of Ramsey and Sanchez. I hope they wont be out for too long especially with the Champions League coming up. Wilshere and Gnabry are back to cover for Rosicky so Ramsey wont be missed much.
Bellerin risks burning out as he has played so much as happened with Chambers until he begun to under perform. He should be rested…and this is why we shouldnt dispose Jenkinson yet.

I feel that Wenger should try to play 5 defenders and a pacy attack in future games to ensure we dont lose points esp when under threat.

    Ospina
    Chambers/(Bellerin) Koscielny Mertesacker Gabriel Gibbs
    Coquelin Rosicky
    Walcott Welbeck

I know it will be hard to have a line up with neither Ozil nor Carzola but this doesn’t have to be for 90 minutes. There’s a reason Mourinho ‘packs the Bus’ and it pays not to concede…. sit back and hit opponents on counter attack, score one or two goals. Gibbs and Bellerin/Chambers are fast enough to help with counter attacks.
Beautiful football doesn’t win matches but goals and clean sheets do. The team was lucky to escape with all points against Leicester and a compact defence would have won us three points at Spurs as we led at half time.

The race for top four finish is trickier than ever and consistency may see us finish 2nd or 3rd.
