Do signs point to Arsenal comeback in Monaco?

Arsenal are set up for miracle in Monaco by Sam P

First off, I keep hearing people say that Arsenal need to score three without reply against Monaco on Tuesday to save our Champions League season, which is wrong. 3-1 in 90 minutes would take us to extra time and then you would have to make the Gunners favourites. Is that scoreline so hard to believe.

Even though we missed a load of chances against them at the Emirates and defended like a pub team, you would not expect us to do the same again. Apart from that game Arsenal have been in great form and if you swapped the Giroud who ran West Ham ragged today with the one who wasted at least three great chances against Monaco then we would not be in this position.

Look we need things to go our way on Tuesday night, no doubt about it, but they have been doing a lot more this season. Getting Ramsey and Gabriel back just in time is one example of how the signs might just be pointing in our favour. Giroud on fire, Walcott fit and Welbeck back in the goals is another.

Wenger rested a few players like Bellerin and Cazorla and even gave Alexis an early bath so I really hope the boss is planning to go for it. Will it be enough? Only time will tell but a good performance would at least make everyone happier and set us up for the end of the season.

  1. if we score 1 early (1st 10mins), the deficit becomes 2:1. thats doable over say 80mins. that would take us to a tie. and then extra time.

    1. We do need to score early but 1st 10 min? I think that’s a little overboard we put 2 past west ham in like 5 min so I think were capable of putting 3 past them at any given time.

Yes there a good team but they have a lot of kids and I seriously don’t think it’s that farfetched for us to go and score 3 in 90 minutes given our form and belief coarsing through the team.

  2. also really happy to see ramsey is back. he’s looking good. maybe he can bag one in monaco. walcott was good a few wks ago, but wenger hasnt played him recently, and now he looks rustier. but i think he’ll be back; just a matter of time.

    1. im also very happy to see him getting back to his best. I hate to be negative but, coq or bould or somebody needs to yell at him so he can remember to keep his discipline. He still bombs forward at every chance possible leaving coq on his own, he needs to pick and choose when he can go up the pitch when the situation calls for it.

  3. Monaco???..i rili see us winning 2-0 afta the 1st half only if wenger starts d ryt playerz..we dnt nid pacy playerz for dz1 cus monaco wil sit bck nd defend..Ospina,Bellerin,Gabriel,Koscielny,Monreal,Coq,Rambo,Ozil,Cazorla,Sanchez nd Giroud will do.

  4. Not that it is tough to achieve, but we need Giroud/Alexis/Cazorla/Danny/Ozil to fire 3 past, I am sure back line will give everything to hold them to low score. Someone should spill Kondobia in this match and they will loose. But they have a gr8 defense record. That is the only hindrance.

  5. I KNOW we will against monaco but we need to start with Welbeck/walcott/sanchez as the front three for speed, power and direct play. Cazorla should be the point man with Ozil coming off the bench, coq/ramsey and beller/gabriel/kos/monreal as the back for with ospina as our GK.

We need to score early, maybe 2 early goals like we usually do and i think we will be too hard for them to handle us. Second half we can bring in ozil/giroud and rosicky increasing the intensity up a notch while putting pressure on them.

This is definitely doable if wenger gets his team selection right and i can tell you this from previous years, the team will come out firing!

  6. I’m still buzzing from our win, and the City result today! Really looking forward to the run in. Can’t wait!

I was a regular visitor to this site for a few years but avoided it most of this season as I was sick of the miserable, negative fan base it had attracted. Morons who jumped all over a draw or loss. Who thought they knew better than Wenger…

Well Dcikheads! We are in the semi’s of the FA cup! Still in with a chance making the Quarters of the CL. And could possible finish second in the league.

Wenger out?? Maybe plastic fans out!

    1. @Green Gunner

Haha! Sorry, but do you even understand football? You claim people don’t know any better than Wenger! So I guess Wenger right to ignore the DM position. We’ve badly needed a world class striker, but no worries…Wenger got Welbeck and Sanogo. We may finish in a higher league position, but we may easily be further
away than last season in terms of points. It is not an improvement. In Europe we have a very very slim chance.

I love it how we win 2 big games away from in god knows how many attempts, and suddenly Wenger is a god again! Middlesbrough won at ManC 2-0, Burnley just beat them, ManU are awful and we’ve beaten them once in how many attempts? Problem with fans like you is you get hoodwinked so easily and you have such short term memories. I feel sorry for you.

    2. With the quality in our squad, and the desperation to win, or at least go further in the Champions League, to go out against a side like Monaco requires a sacking of the manager. Your idol DOES NOT learn from his mistakes.

I see the morale is up and rightly so after the 2 wins post Monaco. However, I would not be surprised if we actually lose again, because unlike us, Monaco seemed to have a plan first leg and I expect the same again Tuesday night.

I always say it and will keep saying it. Fans of Wenger and not The Arsenal just like you will always give credit to their god when we win and blame anyone but him when we lose.

  7. We need to score three but also need to stop them from scoring

Our defense was horrible in first match, especially Mertsacker. We need to shut them out completely which will be difficult. They have a good home record.

I feel good about us scoring, even though they have a very good defense and Kondogbia. But I’m worried about our defense.

I would play Monreal again instead of Gibbs at LB and Bellerin instead of Chambers at RB. Definitely Ospina, Koscielny and Coquelin.

I’m not sure How Wenger will handle Ramsey, Ozil and Cazorla. Will he do like he did yesterday and play Ozil and Ramsey or will he play Cazorla and Ozil like in first leg?

Another question. Will Wenger start Walcott or Welbeck with Alexis on the wings? Or will he play Ozil at LB and Cazorla in centre?

    Giroud should definitely start.

  8. stranger things have happened, if take 2nd and win FA cup, thats a huge season to me, especially w two wins in manchester,

  9. We will win 2-0 and have a few close calls to win in late but come up short. Classic Arsenal. That 3rd goal at the Emirates was a killer.

  10. We will beat them, we will go through to the next round. Monaco are favourites and that will stifle them. We can play with the freedom of nothing to lose. The Monegasque will sit back and look to hit us on the counter – they know we have to take the game to them.
Transition speed from DEFENSE TO ATTACK/ ATTACK to DEFENSE is critical. For that reason I would go with Gibbs at LB instead of the reliable but slower Monreal.
    Ospina
    Hector Gab Kos Gibbs
    Ramsey Coq
    Santi Ozil Alexis
    OG

Theo, Welbeck on the bench – 2nd half subs.

  11. One critical aspect of the 2nd leg is that now Monaco don’t need to come out and attack. They don’t even need to counter like they needed to in the first leg. They just need to sit back and defend. So when an already defence-minded team is set up to defend, there is not a chance that we will score minimum of 3. But still there’s no harm in believing. Don’t accept defeat until you are.
