Does Arsenal boss Wenger have to choose between Giroud and Lacazette?

Arsenal are strongly linked with a move to sign Alexandre Lacazette this summer, a player who has claimed he is keen on an exit from Lyon.

The French striker has consistently found the back of the net in the past three seasons in Ligue 1, and is supposedly high on the Gunners wishlist as we look to strengthen ahead of the new campaign.

His side are willing to allow him to leave the club, and he was set on joining Atletico Madrid before they failed to overturn a transfer ban, and he is now believed to be open to other offers.

Arsenal are believed to be aware of the fee needed to persuade Lyon to allow them to talk to Lacazette, but the French side have also admitted that they are in no rush to sell, and would need a replacement in place prior to completing the 26 year-old’s sale.

Lyon have made it clear that they hold an interest in signing Olivier Giroud, although the 30 year-old still reserves hopes of an important role at Arsenal, which would surely be ended once we bring in a big name.

It makes the world of sense to me that we should pursue a move which would send Olivier to Lyon as part of the deal to sign their prolific goal-scorer, and reports that we are also close to a deal to sign Henry Onyekuru could even mean we would already have two strikers available in the squad.

Is there any chance that Lacazette could struggle to settle in our side? Would we need Giroud while his French counterpart adjusted to life in England?

  1. Is anyone else sick of this Lyon president Aulus? I realize how difficult it can be to finalize transfers in today’s football world(especially with Wenger pulling the strings) and also understand that it’s Aulus’ job to weasel as much money as possible out of us. But every day it’s a different and contradicting story. One day we’ve submitted a nice bid for Lacazette. The next we need to up our offer. Now he leaks his interest in Giroud. Just feels like he’s taking the piss and is an absolute nightmare to deal with. I just want him to shut up already. I personally would not have Lacazette as my first choice striker(would prefer Auba) but for the love of God if we’re gonna get him can it just happen already so I don’t have to listen to Aulus’ bs anymore.

  2. Giroud offers us a Plan B which we all have wanted Wenger to get, now he has it and people are saying we should sell of our Plan B… I don’t understand some of the fans.

I do rate Giroud when we have him competing for his spot and I hope we keep him.

He can hold up the ball when he is on form, he can bring others into play and IMO we should seriously consider the prospect of 2CF being a tactic so we can see the best out of Giroud alongside Lacazette.

Not as a full 90 min tactic but we have seen Giroud contribute in defending corners and as such I think he can be a good sub to either replace or play alongside Lacazette.

Look at how Giroud set up Ramsey in the FA Cup final and also look at Girouds record for France, he still has something to offer us.

  3. Giroud and Sanchez are our2 best goal scorers. Why shouldn’t they be on the pitch at the same. Sanchez can score from anywhere so shouldn’t his game thrive the way Griezeman’s does with France?
Never understood why last year OG was coming off the bench as he and Sanchez would provide goals.

  4. If it’s true that Lyon wants £56 million for Lacazette, I would prefer Aubemeyang for £63 million.

Aubemeyang is 2 years older but he is better in my opinion and only £7 million more expensive.

Only thing is he is 28 years old but we would be getting the finished product and World Class player

    1. We could even go even go with £100-120 million Plus Walcot for Both Aubameyang and Ousame Dembele…..Am sure Walcot would play very well there

      1. The value of Walcott is £25million, The Value of Lucas Perez id £15 million, We could give them both options to lower the money to £90-100 million or ask the to choose either Perez or Walcott..Perez would still be sold anyways if Dortmund decide to choose Walcott.
I would love Us to use the remaining money left to get Nainggolan of Roma for around £35-45 millon. Though he’s 29, but he can still play up to 4 seasons..afterall Sanchez and Ozil will both 29 as well later this year.

    1. Have you wonder why no club is after him. There’s something with him that we don’t know. I guess.

  5. I think that there are many possibilities when it comes to this striker issue. I am now hearing of the possibility of a Sanchez/ Aguero switch. So Aguero is yet another striker who may come in. So frankly, I don’t know again. I have not seen Lacazzette play but I have only heard good things about him and he has been a consistent and prolific goal scorer for several seasons now. I can only say that whatever happens, we need to kinds of strikers for different situations. When teams sit deep, we need that striker who is good in the air. When teams play high, we need that mobile and speedy striker that can hit them on the counter. So yes we need Giroud and we also need the Lacazzette / Aguero type of roving and speedy marks man.
