Former Gunners says Khedira transfer means Arsenal STILL have title chance

The Arsenal transfer rumours about the Germany midfielder Sami Khedira did not stop when the summer transfer window closed. If anything, they have increased and plenty of media outlets, including the Daily Star, seem to think that Arsene Wenger will be going back in January to sign the 27-year old fr4om Real Madrid.

And this one transfer could be the difference between Arsenal falling short of our goals again and actually putting in a strong and realistic title challenge, according to the former Gunner and France international Robert Pires. He told the Daily Telegraph that Khedira is just the right player to complete the missing piece of the puzzle for Arsenal, as his strength, experience, ability and aggression in the centre of the pitch reminds Pires of a certain former team mate of his called Patrick Vieira.

I hope that Pires is talking about how Khedira could transform the Gunners into serious contenders because he has some insider knowledge through his relationship with Arsene Wenger, because with the team currently sitting down in a lowly eighth position in the Premier League, it certainly feels like we need something to happen.

Pires said, “The quality is there but you need more, maybe [someone] like Yaya Toure in middle. He reminds me of Patrick Vieira, maybe they have an opportunity with Khedira. It is likely in the January window. He played very well with Germany. My advice is if he can buy Khedira he can be the [new] Vieira, more aggression in the middle. He has a lot of experience. When you play in the middle you need experience, especially when your midfield is young like Arsenal’s.

“They have nine points difference with Chelsea but we can still win the league. It’s very difficult but in football everything is possible.”

There is a belief that Madrid will be willing to sell Khedira in January for as little as £10 million because it will be their last chance to get anything for him before his contract runs out next summer. And the German is apparently keen to move on as just two sub appearances so far this season explains why he has had enough of Real Madrid under Carlo Ancelotti.

Until January, however, it is vital that Arsenal stay in touch with the top of the table, so it would be nice if someone could knock Chelsea off their stride a bit. Do you think Arsenal will sign Khedira and if so, will he make the difference that Pires claims?

    1. box to box like abou : always injured like abou ,

is mesut lonely? then buy him a goldfish…call it nemo

  1. I do want Khedira :
    1. Myth : Khedira is a DM. On paper yes he is. But watch him play and you would know. He is more of a box to box midfielder. Similar to Alex Song who was also supposed to be a DM.
    2. Injury Prone: Don’t we have enough glass bone players already in the squad ?

Carvalho in an interview has expressed his desire to play in the PL/La Liga. Why not go for him in January?

    1. Cause his agent is the despicable Jorge Mendes who will wh*re him to Real Madrid or ManU on the frist chance he gets for more money.

I would rather have Sebestian Perez or Tiote.

I somehow feel Wenger missed a trick with Besic(now Everton). Young and perfectly suitable.

      1. Dude Besic was okay at the Hungarian league (which is one of the worst leagues around) and almost always played as a defender not in midfield. He of course improved in the PL but is still nowhere near the level we need. Just saying. Cheers.

  2. Isn’t Khedira a box to box midfielder just like Viera was? Gilberto and Petit were always behind him while Viera went forward while helping in cleaning up in the centre. Do we need another Ramsey or do we need an out an out DM peeps?… Always buying players we don’t need.

  3. I am still struggling with the idea that we need another player in our already congested central midfield. More-so, when the player has qualities similar to those we already have enough of. Wenger said in an interview that Khedira is a box-box midfielder and we did not have a need for another of such type. You never know exactly how these things will turn out eventually, especially when it concerns Arsene “confusing” Wenger.

    1. Kondogobia is definitely a better choice, the guy looked super impressive when he played against us in the Emirates Cup, he had the size, speed and strength required for his position.
Our team look like school kids when they play some teams.

Khedira? Don’t make me laugh, although I wouldn’t put it past Wenger to buy him, he did after all miss 69 games, I believe, for Real through injury, Wengers kind of player!

      1. If he’s already missed that many games for Madrid I can’t imagine how many games he would miss for AFC. Diaby might have some competition.

  4. Im just sadden by all our injury problems! Its like the football gods are always angry with us? Why not chelsea, man city?

  5. A bit OT though:

I wish Sanchez get to the pick of his powers quickly. I really want to see him rock the EPL with goals and DRIBBLES this season. And his pinpoint free kicks too!

  6. All of you want Wenger to sign Kondogbia because of one Emirates cup game he played against us i doubt if Monaco will approve his sale.Do you actually judge a player’s quality base on one game or a series of nice performance he puts in week after week? I will be satisfied if Wenger signs Khedira. In modern football you can do without a proper DM.Most big clubs today don’t use pure DMs instead they use the double pivot system of two box-to-box midfielders and it works perfectly well.Liverpool did it with Alonso and Mascherano you can comfirm from Manu and Madrid what happened to them when the played against Liverpool in those games.Real Madrid did it with Alonso and Khedira(when he was available) it also worked.Germany did it with Khedira and Kroos/Schwensteiger and they won the world cup,I can go on naming clubs who adopt that system. The reason why ours with Ramsey and Arteta or Ramsey and Wilshere is not working is because they are not built in the mould of these players i have mentioned above; they are not defensive minded like others(they are more offensive),they lack discipline with the ball(e.g Wilshere),they are not tall, big and strong.Imagine our midfield with Khedira and Diaby(when fit) we won’t complain as much or Khedira and Ramsey, when one is going forward the other sits back waiting for counter attacks so I don’t see any thing wrong with Khedira provided he stays fit.

  7. if wenger buys khedira, then i will know for sure that he is mad. This guy spends most of his time on the sidelines with injuries for madrid and it will only get worse at arsenal, and he is not really a dm anyways but more of a box to box player.

  8. Would it be only one DM or two we need? I think we need two top DMs in front of the Quartet and behind the Trio in a 4-2-3-1 formation. Arsenal first team squad: (Szczesny…Ospina…Martinez.) (Debuchy…Chambers…Bellerin.) (Mertesacker…Hayden…Koscielny.) (Gibbs…Monreal.) (Calvaho….& a top new DM.) (Flamini…Coquelin.) (Sanchez…/Walcott.) (Ozil…Wilshere…Ramsey.) (Oxlade….Cazorla….Draxler.) (Welbeck…Giroud…Sanogo…Akpom.) Where do we actually need to strengthen? Obviously in the DM position, we lack depth and power. And our out right wide to replace weaking Podolski. But I think we are okay in the other departments. In January window, 2 new top DMs and one top out wide attacker could be signed. I think the boss should strengthen his squad with only 3 additions. Let us greet the boss, to say welldone and thank you for all your efforts in making the Gunners to still have a chance of challenging thefor title despite the calamiteous injuries suffered by some Gunners. However, the boss should do whatever is possible to make sure Arsenal doesn’t drop any point from their remaining Barclays Premier League and Champions League games up to the end of the year. After then he could strengthen his squad again.

  9. I promise you that absolutely 0 of you watched Khedira play for Stuttgart. I did. He was an outstanding DM. He is not asked to play that role for RM. There is a little competition that happens every 4 years, it’s called the World Cup. I seem to remember Khedira being a general pain in the ass for the opposition breaking up play, and being one of the best players for Germany. Oh, not to mention threading the ball through defenses like a needle. 4 months ago this board was flipping out over Khedira, now because he is sitting at Madrid he is rubbish. You guys are the worst, half of you don’t have a clue and just say things based on………. I don’t even know. Whatever is in your head that is based on no reality. I mean I could see not knowing him from his days in a small Stuttgart squad, but the World Cup wasn’t even that long ago……….. but you’re calling for a guy that played essentially one good game against us in a friendly. What the actual hell!?!
