My Arsenal team to face Sunderland – What’s yours?

Arsenal may be suffering from the usual festive injury list, but we still have a lot of quality in the squad. Wenger’s latest injury update wasn’t exactly full of festive cheer for the fans. He said “At the moment on Alexis, Santi and Mikel, we don’t know how long they will be out for.” And we know we can add Francis Coquelin to that unknown return list as well…

But it wasn’t all bad news as the Boss also admitted that we could have some players back as well. “We will make a decision on Saturday on Koscielny and Walcott, they could both make the squad. Gibbs is available again for the weekend.” And Oxlade-Chamberlain is also back with us and could play tomorrow to give us more options.

So who is Wenger likely to play? I don’t think he’ll throw Walcott on at the start, but will probably give him the last half-hour or so. Neither Gibbs or the Ox has played for a while, but we have seen Le Prof try Gibbs out in Sanchez’s position and he is more naturally a left-winger than Oxlade-Chamberlain. I think Wenger will start with Campbell and Gibbs outside of Giroud, and leave the Ox on the bench as cover if needed…

The defence picks itself but with a question mark against Koscielny, I think Gabriel will start, and Wenger will put Chambers on the bench as cover for Flamini….

So here is my team:

Giroud

Gibbs Ozil Campbell

Flamini Ramsey

Monreal Gabriel Mertesacker Bellerin

Cech

Who do you think Wenger will pick?

  1. IMO Oxlade must start then come off for Walcott late in the second half – That all depends on how bad Wenger wants CL football because Walcott will be needed against Olympiacos as we need 2 goals. I wouldn’t like to see Theo play that game without at least 10 minutes against Sunderland!!!

  2. Ox will most likely start in absent of Alexis, plus the fact that Ramsey will be reverted to the middle, so basically you can’t drop Ox while both Ramsey & Alexis are not playing on the wing. And finally the Boss will start if he is available, more especially as Gabreal had a shocker last game.

  3. I hope Walcott gets some minutes tomorrow. Over the festive period I’ll like to see Walcott restored to the right wing. He and Giroud are our goalscorers. The OX for me doesn’t score or assist nearly enough to deserve a place on the starting 11.

  4. Wenger won’t start Giroud and Walcott at the same time. He is too scared of losing both his strikers to injury in the same match

  5. Cazorla is out for 4 months!
(Probably struggle to be fit for the Euro’s)

I’m sure that wenger already knows this,
And that he is delaying confirmation because of fear of backlash and feelings of guilt for not taking him off straight away.

    Just wait and see!
I have a masters degree in Wengerology ?

    1. I have a PhD in Fourthology, Wenger isn’t mentioning anything because the transfer window is about to be open, he doesn’t like the pressure of buying so he’s going to remain ambiguous like he did with Welbeck’s injury 😀

  6. How will the fan’s react if Ramsey keeps his place on the Right wing?

    And pairs Flamini with Chambers.

Because that’s exactly what a deluded person will do!

  7. ———————— Cech
    Bellerin, Mertesacker, Gabriel, Monreal
    ———- Flamini ——— Chambers
    Ramsey———- Ozil ——— Ox/ Campbell
    ———————- Giroud

Don’t be surprised when you see Ramsey on the right wing and chambers in DM.

  8. whoever’s able to walk still tbh. santi out for the season practically as well as coquelin so we have to experiment with a new midfield base after finally finding the balance. ramsey’s not positionally disciplined enough to play cm after his goalscoring season and no-one comes close to coquelin in the holding role, our season is over (if it ever really was on in the first place).

I’d like to see us try out a different formation which could allow us to shore up the midfield but don’t expect wenger knows any other formations so look forward to a run of mediocre results… ah I see, its already started.

  9. I can’t believe Cazorla is out until March 16, so gutted!
What a mess that we are talking about Gibbs, Campbell and Giroud around Ozil.
I think Wenger will want not just pace on the flanks but another inteligent ball player, (when they are on their game) – Ramsey may be played right wing next to Ozil.
Personally I’d rather Ramsey was in front of the back 4 in Cazorlas position and hopefully he can show a little discipline between defence and attack.
I quite like the look of @Davros’s line up.

  10. Lol. Fans have to watch Arsenal under turtore from now on, bec the current line up is very poor and a headaches receiver.

Wenger, breaking all kinds of bad records. Allllll kinds.

How much he annoys me then in time of worry with his bs of: Belive, mental strong, cohesion, we fight till the end, trust, we do our best.

Sometimes i ask my self if Arsenal fans have turned comfortabe in being stupid, or they simple dont care anymore?

  11. Also what is the point of the following players being on our books?:
    Wilshire, Welbeck, Rosicky, Arteta.
I understand long term injuries happen but come on 4 forgotten players within our sqaud!

  12. Nice to know Wengers not interested in Stones of Everton, probably the best young football playing defender in Europe. Add his name to all the other top top players he’s not interested in due to the fee I guess. Can’t wait for his contract (Wenger) to expire, before I do.

  13. i watch jurgen klopp interviews an swoon , cant help but smile

feel like im cheating on arsene everytime i do it

    1. Did you see the interview he done with the little scouse boy?
Hahaha. .. at the end of the interview, the boy told him that he wasn’t normal.. Klopp’s face just dropped. ?

  14. ……………Cech
    Bellerin..Mert..Gab..Monreal
    ………Flamini..Ramsey
    ……Oxlade..Ozil..Adelaide/Gibbs
    …………..Giroud

  15. Theo Walcott, Laurent Koscielny and Kieran Gibbs are all in contention to make the squad for Arsenal’s Premier League game at home to Sunderland tomorrow after they played a full part in today’s training session.

In addition, six youngsters- Alex Iwobi, Jeff Reine-Adelaide, Chris Willock, Julio Pleguezuelo, Glen Kamara and Josh Dasilva- all trained with the first-team at London Colney today.

    Thanks to ArsenalYouth
