Arsenal receive early boost before they face Liverpool

Arsenal have received a timely boost ahead of their Premier League clash with Liverpool on Thursday, as uncertainty surrounds the fitness of one of the opposition’s key attacking players. The fixture offers Arsenal an opportunity to respond to the defeat they suffered in the reverse meeting, and developments in the Liverpool camp could work in their favour.

Liverpool Injury Concern Ahead of Key Fixture

Liverpool has endured a difficult campaign, with scoring issues persisting despite significant investment in attacking players during the summer transfer window. Their situation has been complicated further by the long absence of their record signing, Alexander Isak, who is currently sidelined with a serious injury. His unavailability has left Hugo Ekitike as the only recognised striker in the squad, increasing the importance of his contributions.

Ekitike has performed at a high level and would have been keen to test Arsenal’s defence when the two sides meet. However, his absence from Liverpool’s recent match against Fulham raised concerns, as it was unexpected and immediately noticeable. It has since been confirmed that he missed the game due to injury, leaving Liverpool without a central striker, a scenario they are unaccustomed to managing.

Potential Advantage for Arsenal

The lack of clarity surrounding Ekitike’s recovery timeline has added to Liverpool’s worries. According to Sports Mole, the forward is now expected to miss a number of matches, with the Arsenal fixture potentially among those he will be unavailable for. While the exact duration of his absence remains uncertain, the prospect of Liverpool being without a recognised striker against Arsenal represents a significant setback for the Merseyside club.

For Arsenal, this development could prove decisive. Liverpool has struggled to find the net consistently this season, even when their attacking options have been fully available. Facing a Liverpool side that may once again be forced to operate without a striker could ease the pressure on Arsenal’s defence and allow them to approach the match with greater confidence.

As preparations continue for Thursday’s encounter, Arsenal will view the situation as an encouraging sign, knowing that Liverpool’s attacking threat may be reduced at a crucial moment in the season.

    1. The MRI scan did pick something up, alongside muscle fatigue.
Every single player of a club in expanded ECL first faze, and jam packed PL winter should be at risk, some sides have reached league cup QF too, but I wonder if older players who have been through this are physically better than etiquettey whose never played this amount of fixtures in his young body before in his career?
I think it’s also worse where team have injury issues and can’t do any resting, Arsenal couldn’t rest Timber for example, Liverpool only have the 1 number 9 left so pressure is on to play him till he breaks. And what is this about Liverpool managing Werz hamstring issue by playing him every game? Is that how you manage hamstring issues?
Can it be billed as blockbuster clash if it’s Liverpool second string?

    2. In slots own words, he travelled on plane with them agreed he was too muscle tired to play full 90, but they got the scan result when in London and it had more than muscle fatigue on it. Consider him out for more than this week. Egypt should win, putting Salah out Thursday. If they play Wurz with a bad hamstring he might go off on a stretcher. Could be a depleted Liverpool bench and team.

      1. Moon Girl,
Egypt 1- 1 Benin; now at 87 minutes. We’ve to wait for the extra time then pens (if) to exactly know whether Salah is staying at Afcon or feature against us.

  1. When asked about Ekitike, Slot said he’ll be ready for Arsenal tie. Sometimes managers do react this way not to embolden the opponent though they know the player is unfit to play. If the injury as said is hamstring, I doubt Ekitike’s rapid recovery and his involvement. No Salah, Isak and Ekitike is huge advantage to Arsenal. Liverpool are unbeaten in 9 games; winning 5.
As both Villa and City play before Arsenal, the points gap may drop to 3 so it’s imperative to beat the defending champions and dethrone them.

    1. Ekitike looks to be out, and possibly Wirtz too. Wirtz may be technically capable of playing, but he’s carrying injuries.

There’s a lot of pessimism among Liverpool supporters that they don’t have the form and strength to beat us this week. My guess is that Slot decides to keep his powder dry rather than risk losing Wirtz for longer.

Could be something more like this. Curtis Jones is possibly in the mix too.

      Gakpo.
      Ngumoha. Szoboszlai. Chiesa.
      MacAllister. Gravenberch.
      Kerkez. Van Dijk. Konate. Frimpong.
      Allison.

    1. Remember Liverpool having joy against us last season when we were weakened by key injuries. If Egypt win today, I predict Liverpool line up with no Ettyteakay, no Wurz at false 9 and no Salah. And I say bring it on!
Liverpool overpaid on players in summer splurge, and still didn’t address strength in depth they fluked last season carrying that risk.
Key injuries mounting up at Mancy too.

  2. Arteta started having issue with eza or eze having issue with arteta???? Pls dis question goes to that fans… What is d problem arteta isn’t using eze again like a few marches now…

  3. Let’s put this Eze issue into context, he’s not as effective as Odegaard creating chances for others or presses relentlessly as the Norwegian, so he won’t start some games.

When Arsenal has a slender lead and Odegaard needs to replace, Merino will be given the edge as not many midfielders in the league is as good as the Spaniard without the ball.

    1. That’s his big, big problem Gunsmoke…he doesn’t press at all. In the first game against Villa, Matty Cash made him his bitch for this very reason. Possibly Arteta’s fault for playing him wide left, which he’s just not good at.

      1. Arteta is very meticulous, am not sure the Spaniard was overly enthused to sign Eze, and that explained the eleventh hour deal for his service.
But he’s a fan and technically gifted, he’s too, a more natural midfield finisher that flourishes in and around the box.

It is belive, Arda Guler from the Bernabeu giant is the player the gaffer really likes, and we know the obsession he has with left footed players.

It is going to be hard to bend an old tree Jax

But he’s an Arsenal player now, Arteta has to find away, but four game absence for a sixty million player who’s as fit as a fiddle is alarming

      2. I agree with both of you. Gun had summoned up differences between Ode and Eze very well. When you mention Matty cash, I think cash plays well against everybody, he’s that good. But I also remember Eze El Mary pass for our late equaliser against Mancy, no one else in our team is doing that, nor his hatrick against Spurs where his tracking back showed Eze as a true all round athlete. I like Eze, would like to see him as first choice if Rice out rather than Merino.

  4. Doesn’t really matter who eventually runs out for LFC the fact of the matter they will play us with a winning intent as is now customary with their big club status. Ambachew (ibid) says we need to ‘…beat the defending champions and dethrone them’ – And so, from the get-go we’ll have to approach the challenge seriously and come away with a [decisive] win.

All our defence, our midfield. arsenal wingers as well as VG14 our primary striker will need to be at their best and on point. The romance period for Eze is over hopefully he will play and make the difference; an assist would do but our VG14 also needs to impact the *score line* or many will look on him with an eyebrow raise.

    1. Amorin and the CFC’s coach (both dismissed) implies both clubs waving the white flag when it comes to either winning the EPL.

Dare i say it Slot may be considering a way out for himself 🙂 – Who’d have believed arsenal’s upwards trajectory would be taking such a toll?
      Have a great day SueP

      1. “ Who’d have believed arsenal’s upwards trajectory would be taking such a toll?”
Me. I predicted this wave of new year sackings/leavings in psts just few days ago. I explained it as planning for next August already. I even gave a timeline – Amorim to follow Mareskaa, Spuds act next, then West Ham, Howe to depart Newcastle and Pep at Man City not as sackings but announcements for end of season. Howe will go to Man Utd and do well there. Pep is returning to Spain this summer. Injuries now torpedoing City’s bid for trophy this season, two seasons in row without one.

        1. @ Moon Girl

          Thanks for response.
id not fixed on any of it as a dynamic, but with the benefit of hindsight much of what you have outlined (ibid) could have been foreseeable. I’m simply happier knowing none of this ‘adversely’ affects us. Fact is i am encouraged by the latest revelations and hope it drives us over the line(s).

Moon Girl Big up your status / COYG!

          1. Hadn’t thought of Howe. Steady Eddie but like Arteta at present, hasn’t got a bulging trophy cabinet. One heck of a difficult post to fill at present. Utd are a mess and it would take a special manager to reinvigorate a club that has lost its way. – both on the pitch and at board level

            1. They’ve had some very experienced and hard headed managers in recent years, but it doesn’t seem to matter who they bring in – the rot stems from deep within the club itself (current owners are making it even worse). Eddie is way too smart to take an offer from Ratcliffe, he saw what happened to Dan Ashworth. Zero reason for him to leave Newcastle where he is adored.

It’s most likely going to end up being another manager from abroad who is dazzled by the opportunity (and the inevitable payout when they get sacked five months later)…

    2. Wow, two managerless clubs, Arsenal bold bid from in front is taking it’s toll for the championship.

But SueP, I thought Amorim had weather the storm.

Funny as this may sound, it could have bearing on how Slop set up his team against us on Thursday, a hammering of the champions would be too much for the Anfield faithfuls

      1. A cracking misspelling there Gunsmoke. I think its a more suitable name tbh Do you think that Liverpool can beat us this week?
Regarding Amorim, his statements yesterday made his position look really dodgy

        1. SueP
Can’t see Liverpool beating us on Thursday and am going to try and explain why.

They have the same issue as us integrating our new striker, but even then as Declan Rice recently stated we probably wouldn’t be where we are now without the big Swede.

But it’s not just Isak, they have an ongoing struggles with integrating numerous other players as opposed to Arsenal who’s like a well tune Ferrari.

So the major advantages is , when we last face the champions, we were nothing like we are now,

    3. Was a long time coming really. No idea how it might affect the team though historically speaking interims at Man U often seem to deliver a short bump in performance. Hard to see they will have a permanent new manager by then – the leading candidates are all doing well at other clubs already – so possibly someone till the end of the season. Mbeumo should be back, which will be a bigger impact on team morale I reckon.

  5. Gyokeres – Ekitike
    Trossard – Gakpo
    Odegaard – Wirtz
    Saka – Szoboslai
    Rice – Macallister
    Zubimendi – Gravenbach
    Hincapie – Kirkez
    Gabriel – VanDijk
    Saliba – Konate
    Timber – Frimpong
    Raya – Allison

  6. What is it with all these managers getting the sack. Christmas has come and gone. 😂 Happy New Year Everyone. 👍
