The message from the manager is clear. While Arsenal have made enormous strides in recent seasons, the ultimate measure of their progress will be lifting a major trophy. With the squad strengthened and the manager’s vision firmly in place, this campaign represents an opportunity to turn potential into silverware.

Surprise, surprise. It’s what some of us have been saying on the site for quite a time now.
So, there’s no blather about “it’s so hard”, “there are only a few trophies to go around”, “a Top 4 finish is as good as a trophy”, “the owners won’t mind” etc.
I was pleased to read that “Arteta himself accepts that this is a crucial moment in his managerial career and in the development of the team he has built.” Spot on, Mikel. The coming season is going to be the most important since you took over in 2019-20. With a dearth of silverware and some £900m spent, what else can it be? Let’s keep our fingers firmly crossed.
Surprise, surprise. “We still need to win a major title” makes sense as those points totals weren’t enough to win a major title during the respective seasons. So I guess MA believes it’s easy to do whatever and there are many trophies to go around? Did MA state that crucial moment/development of the team stuff or was it an assumption of what MA believes added to the article by the author? Just major trophies or bust! JA comment section is cancelled this season.
I don’t suggest that Arteta thinks it’s easy to win a trophy, but a range of other clubs have managed to do it over the last couple of seasons: City, Liverpool, Utd, Newcastle, Palace, Sp*rs, Chelsea etc.
As I’ve said in other posts, not winning any of the range of trophies since 2019-20 is contributing to the pressure building up, inevitably, for 2025-26. The less you’ve won, the greater the pressure there is to “winning big” because “winning small” probably won’t be enough.
You can only go so far over several seasons, and spend so much, in putting all the pieces into place. That’s not, and can’t be, an end in itself. It’s the “journey” not the “destination”.
Mr Wenger, in his baron spell managed to amass more points between 1st January and 31st December one year that was more points than won the league for the respective teams the season before and after. Still not good enough for the league though.
