Official – Mikel Arteta’s confirmed Arsenal XI for Man United clash

Today’s Super Sunday clash at Old Trafford has been the vocal point for much of the weekend, and it is finally time to see which players have been selected to start for Arsenal against Manchester United today.

While we will be most keen to see which (if any) of Martin Odegaard, Aaron Ramsdale or Oleksandr Zinchenko have recovered in time to take on the Red Devils, the home team’s fans will be in a similar boat as they await to see if new signings Anthony or Casemiro will be in today’s line-up.

I opted to name both the Norwegian and Ramsdale in my predicted XI, although I’m not sure if that was pure positive thinking or possibly because of the potential mind games that Mikel Arteta may or may not have been playing, but as you can we didn’t move to predict a single change from the team that won at Aston Villa in midweek.

Our predicted line-up from earlier on today:

Ramsdale
White Saliba Gabriel Tierney
Lokonga Odegaard Xhaka
Saka Jesus Martinelli

Thankfully, we have to wait no longer to see which players will be stepping up to take on Erik Ten Hag’s side today.

Would you have made any changes to Arteta’s selection? Does this XI fill you with confidence ahead of kick-off?

Patrick

  1. If Zinchenko and Odegaard are fully fit to play, I’m confident we can beat Man United

Unfortunately, Antony and Sancho start the game, so we can only hope Antony hasn’t clicked with his new teammates yet

    1. Is Antony Lionel Messi?
He’s got nothing but hype surrounding him because United fans wanted a big money spending.
The same Antony Saka and ESR had more league goals than last season even though he was playing in a weak league?
I’m not disrespecting the guy, but come on. Respect our players too and keep the faith bro 💪

      1. Antony didn’t produce many goals and assists, but I bet he’s been fouled and has dribbled past players more than any RW under 25 years old. His tricks are really dangerous

It’s like watching the left-footed version of Neymar. I think we should’ve signed him after Raphinha chose Barcelona

        1. Neymar? Neymar wasn’t just all dribble, he had the end product to justify his dribbling…….. so far, Antony seems to be just flashy skills with no end product. And we had Bolasie doing that in the EPL, didn’t help his team much, Saint-Maximin seems to be doing the same with Newcastle. Besides, I think you underestimate the ability of our defenders….. Anyways, hoping we have a great game and win….. COYG!!!!!!!!!

          1. I bet Saint-Maximin would’ve been more productive if he played for Arsenal, Liverpool, Real Madrid or Man City, so I’m afraid Antony will eventually become Man United’s Salah

    2. Gai I don’t care who or who hasn’t started for Manchester. Our squad is good enough to win at old Trafford

      1. Agree we face whoever we face. Besides for one player we are at full strength. No excuses, players have prepared for this match and for a tough game.

      2. I don’t think Man United can beat us in ball possession and open-play, but their tricky wingers would likely win plenty of free-kicks and the officials could give the home team an advantage

  2. Strong team if they are fit. Happy to see Zinchenko back, he is a real thinking man’s footballer and athlete. Odegaard is crucial to our midfield play. Let’s hope Sambi shows how good he is. Play them off the park.

  3. We have that extra man in midfield in zinny. We are going with a back 3 and padding up the midfield. Our ball retention will be a key factor. Let’s just play them off the park a la man city. 0-2 to arsenal. COYG🔴⚪

  4. Strong lineup regardless.
It’s Sambi’s time to show he can step up like Nketiah did when he got his chance last season.
That All or Nothing clip where Eddie told him to stop being sorry for himself comes to mind now.
Hope he steps up massively and show the manager and fans he’s worth the faith put in him

  5. Was pretty sure Ramsdale/Odegaard would be back, nice surprise to see Zinchenko able to start.

We are well overdue an Old Trafford win (1 in the last 16 years.) Most confident have been in years.

We are in such a good position, win today and we will be 4 points clear at the top and have picked up 6 more than we did last year in the equivalent fixtures. No matter what we will be top with 3 more points than last year.

    COYG!

      1. Really so pleased for him. He didn’t really take off with Middlesbrough last year (18 apps, 3 goals) not that he was bad. We should be a really good place next year. Nunu/Balogun impressing on loan. Patino was as well and his injury is not too serious. Then we have Cuffy as well at RB who I’m hoping has a big season. Many more on loan too.

  6. whats the point of cedric on bench even at our club nice to have balogun to come on top scorer on ligue 1 poor from arteta eddie my lord

    1. Yeah because Balogun’s 3 goals in 18 Championship games. Really outshone Eddie’s 5 in 21 (8 starts) in the Prem last year.

Cedric is the squad to cover RB/LB.

Why can’t you just be happy Balogun is playing regularly and well? He’s scored 5 in 6 (4 starts) at a time where he would of played no cups games for us yet had he stayed.

We have Eddie and Balogun both HG. How is that not a good thing? Why the need to insult Eddie? Whose record is every bit as impressive as Balogun’s.

      1. You should know his real intention wasn’t to take a dig at Eddie or cedrick, his real aim was a Arteta . Pay no attention to him/her / whatever it is.

  7. Surprised Tierney does not start.Zinchenko, who is not quick could be exposed on the counter attack and Xhaka may have to play deeper today.Big test for Saliba and Gabriel as their front three are all pacey.I would settle for a draw but I think we can edge it.

    1. My fear is Gabriel. Sancho won’t get past Ben White and Rashford does not have the physicality to trouble Saliba. How Gabriel stops Antony will be key.

    2. Tierney not able to play Zinchenko’s role as an inverted LB yet. And Zinchenko is pretty press resistant so I think it would be better. For counters I believe we might revert to a 3 cb formation with our wingers tracking back. All in all it might be fine though like you I also think we might get a draw only.

  8. No surprises as far as line up, maybe Tierney being dropped for Zinchenko but otherwise as expected. Lets go!!!!!!

  9. Our squad is filled with strong and intelligent players, thanks to Mikel. The team is ready to replicate the last five results by the grace of God. Result: Man U.1 Arsenal 2.

  10. Fpl League Code: 5aw5ut
Can’t post the link here, anybody willing to take over or do a weekly report/article is welcome to do so.

  11. This game will be won or list in the middle of the park

    Mctomeny fernandes eriksen
    VS
    Lokonga odegaard xhaka

A tough call … would b happy with a draw at OT

  12. You guys complain a lot, what’s with this inferiority complex? So Manchester United teams is now a Man City or Real Madrid team we should be scared of? COYG.

    1. Not scared just respect. 1 in 16 for us there. They had a bad season last year and were miles back on us but still finished 6th above everyone else in the league. Their squad cost far more than ours and is on higher wages. Ten Haag is a respected manager.

All that said I’m confident of win as you say they are not City/Real but we are away. Their fans will be on side.

  13. This has got a Derby feel and as Klopp says “the first rule of a Derby if you can’t win it don’t lose it” in truth I wouldn’t be surprised by any result today, it’s just one of them fixtures …..

No sending off, no penalty’s just a clean game 🤞

  14. Whatever happens today it won’t change our position in the league table therefore I refuse to watch the match with any form of pressure whatsoever. Win or lose Arteta and the should extract valuable lessons from the game. #COYG.

  15. VAR always picks out against us, never see these edge cases for us. Even then it’s soft. They play on normally.

    1. Chelsea with Mendy yesterday, yet Ramsdale with Villa wasn’t one. VVD should of been sent off, wasn’t. Total joke.

    2. Another crap decision by var it has been awful all weekend and the ref didn’t have the balls to give it, shocking all round

      1. I do that is the problem with the PGMOL that run things. Feels like they are trying to get rid of VAR so they can revert to no scrutiny.

  16. Martinez and McTominay should both be on yellows and VAR is an absolute joke. Why does none of this surprise me.

  17. Leave it to the English football referee and VAR to ruin everything. Let’s hope they don’t ruin the whole game.

  18. Didn’t realise that it a new rule of football that you’re allowed to hold Jesus whenever he’s got the ball

  19. Man Utd bullying us ATM ,physical, must admit they look a well oiled machine today and have slightly edged us this first 30 mins .

        1. Neville even admitted post match we we better for 70 mins. At the time when I commented Neville had admitted we were better for the last 20. That was what I directed that comment at. Also I watched the match.

  20. Nice goal by ManU.
We are not able to become compact these last few minutes. I guess we have to look at these attacks and recollect ourselves before attacking again.
And yeah I agree with Dan that ManU have been handling us well…

  21. Like I said this game is being won and lost in middle of park .. was always going through be tough with a novice and a nobody .. would like to see biers on at some point as an a proper attacking option

          1. I’m watching the game idc what a stat machine says he’s not doing well. Xhaka doing lots of covering for him and Jesus has worked harder.

  22. Nasty people some of fans frankly. Sambi has been assured on the ball and has more interceptions than anyone. He was out of position for the goal because he was leading the press around the half-way line but that involves paying attention.

    1. Now I’m “nasty”? Just say it to me instead of acting like you aren’t talking about me. Team is doing fine but not everyone is pulling their weight. I’ll hope he does better 2nd half but he’s not convinced so far. He has been thrown in since we picked up two injuries but he’s letting the game pass him by.

      1. Direct me to the passage of play where Lokonga was so poor then? You just want him to be bad because of your opinion on our DM situation and you ego..

        1. Out of position for the goal, sloppy tackle on fernandes, not much aggression shown in the middle of the park. Eriksen has his number. He’s been fine picking up the ball from defense and moving it a midfielder but nothing advanced. He’s been playing like Elneny but not enough pressing and seems fine to let Jesus, Gabriel, Xhaka go in for a challenge instead. And he’s not solely responsible for the first half but you want me to critique his performance so far so here you go.

          1. Was conducting the press rightly for the goal, haven’t seen you mention Zincheko because it doesn’t fit your bias but that was the big problem, 2nd problem was Gabriel going to ground when he missed it. Lokonga pressing is how we are supposed to play.

            Sloppy tackle, really.

Random subjective assertion of no aggression with no evidence. More interceptions than anyone else suggest he’s aggressively cutting out passes.

            1. I literally said it wasn’t all down to lokonga. And if You can’t stop with the ad hominem attacks in every single one of your comments I won’t engage with you anymore. Im fine to discuss the game but I won’t reply to anymore childish comments such as yours.

              1. You started on Lokonga, I defended him no ad hominem obviously. Do you understand the phrase? I did not attack you which is what ad hominem means, I attacked your argument.

                1. What does ad hominem mean?

/ ˌædˈhɑː.mɪ.nəm / (of a criticism, etc.) directed against a person, rather than against what that person says: an ad hominem attack on his rival I’m not going to be swayed by ad hominem arguments attacking me instead of supporting your own position.

  23. Pretty even half which is amazing given we are playing white at RB and xhaka as AM when we have better options s on the bench .. big half coming up

  24. Told you Antony is very dangerous and we should’ve signed him

Eriksen went down too easily and we should’ve led, but there’s still time to turn the table. As expected, the referee seems biased towards Man United

      1. He’s 22 years old, a Brazilian international and the trickiest RW I’ve ever seen. We could’ve won a lot of free-kick if we had someone like him and Saka would’ve been forced to improve his skills

        1. Didn’t trick anything though did he, Zincheko made a pretty massive positional mistake and he finished a chance everyone would expect anyone to do.

    1. He seems to be weak…
He came under pressure from Utd players and home crowd and fail to deliver correct decision…

  25. What did i say about the refs this morning? But i was rediculed .i told you doesnt matter what we do ref will make sure will lose this game

  26. Win of lose, this going to be a great season for AFC.. The confidence on the ball and passing is unlike what I have seen in years..

  27. We have been the vest team apart from first 10 minutes but some fans think united were better, I don’t know gane they are watching. Sambi is nit hiding, he is playing his role. He is playing as DM not AMF that will drbble past whole team ti be noticed.

  28. I know I’m not MA but if I were,I would introduce Tomi, move White to shore up our defense and take off Lonkoga, would anyone agree?

    1. Definitely bring on Tomi .. people being too hard on lakonga .. would like to see vierra on today for more attacking punch .. need to score

    2. That is the only way out in a game of this magnitude. But Arteta decided to stick with Lokonga, who is never gonna be able to cope with the pressure and physicality.

  29. Referee and var have cost us again but no one has the balls to say anything but would if it was at the Emirates

      1. Point is it doesn’t happen against other sides we rival unless they are playing each other and doesn’t happen in our favour. VVD’s challenge this week was magnitudes worse than Xhaka’s red card at city. Full on contact above the ankle, same as Pogba the same weekend Xhaka got sent off funny enough in light of this game United went on to score from Pogbas over the ball foul and it counted, no VAR.

        1. Not saying VAR isn’t inconsistent but odegaard didn’t get any of the ball and there was a push in the back. Soft, for sure. But can’t say there was no foul there. VAR did right thing and left it up to the ref to determine.

          1. Don’t disagree but if we are the only team they apply those rules too there is an issue. Worth noting that refs have waved play on no foul for a lot for identical issues during games so far, new directive that apparently does not apply to us.

  30. That was not a foul, it was a goal. No wonder English referees are joke. Hope not to see these idiots in world Cup.

        1. Saliba had it covered. I agree Zinchenko should should have stayed with Antony. But yes it started with a poor choice from Gabriel

    1. No he did not. He went after Fernandez which in part should be Lokonga’s job. Lokonga has been not bad and not too good either. A Partey or a solid Partey replacement would have made that midfield more solid. So far we’ve played well. Odegaard and figdeting in front of goal are 5 and 6. He and saka need to learn how to be more deadly. Martinelli and Zinchenko are probably our best players so far.

  31. Var is a joke, no obvious mistake. Gabriel broke position and cost us the goal. we should have been 1-0 up.

    1. at best the Var was a 50-50 decision and in that case you go with the reff initial decision. rediculous.

  32. That isn’t right mate and while someone is allowed to post this sort of stuff I wont return to this site as you cant wish bad things to a ref and his family

    1. My bad.angry and disappointed. Apologies to all in this platform for my bad comment.. I still think that goal should be allowed..

  33. The only reason we’re losing is because of Gabs defending. Went down too early and then he’s out position. Apparently from that we were worthy of a goal which we all know VAR has once again screwed up. VAR needs to be scrapped after an horrendous weekend of errors!

  34. You sad Fck
Disgusting little child ,That might be one of the worst comments I’ve seen on this platform

    1. Missed it but I agree not on. I hate referring decisions and think the PGMOL is a fundamentally inept organisation at best. Don’t target individual’s even if you believe they are corrupt (Innocent until proven guilty.)

        1. Fair play we all get heated but peoples family is off limits you are not responsible for the actions of others in your family unless it’s a direct correlation which is obviously not the case here.

  35. Carragher thinks that this was the right call,I wonder if he thinks VVD should have seen red yesterday for nearly breaking Onana’s leg?

    1. I watched match of the day this morning (first time in years )and Alan shearer said that VvD challenge was just a yellow card ,then in the same interview they said that they should have ex footballers in the VAR room ,you could t make it up ,that was a red card all day every day .

    1. Making life difficult for ourselves here … lack of physicality and pace at back … but arteta needs to make a change

  36. People here told me Lokonga is ready coz he played well vs Villa. The boy is far from ready and not signing a midfielder will condemn us
