Real Madrid Winger Back On Arsenal’s Radar After Eze Blow

Arsenal continue to receive concrete reasons to reignite their pursuit of Real Madrid’s Rodrygo.

With Eberechi Eze now heading to Tottenham Hotspur, Arsenal have missed out on their top target despite being ready to make the necessary sales to fund the move.

Need for a left winger

The left-wing struggles against Manchester United were plain to see, with Gabriel Martinelli and Noni Madueke both failing to impress. The Times’ Paul Hirst has urged Mikel Arteta to prioritise a left-wing signing.

Adding to the urgency is the latest update from Manchester City, who were plotting a headline swoop for Rodrygo but have now pulled out of the race after opting not to sell Savinho to Spurs.

Arsenal have every reason to revive their search for a left winger, and what better way to do so than by going after their number one target, Rodrygo.

As much as signing Eze would have strengthened Arsenal, what this team truly needs is a functioning attack. They need their frontline firing, and that will not happen if the left wing continues to underperform.

If Andrea Berta can deliver a top-class winger who mirrors Bukayo Saka’s output on the right, it could unlock Arsenal’s attack and get Viktor Gyokeres firing. That said, Rodrygo will not come cheap. Real Madrid are demanding between €80 million and €100 million to let him go, according to Guillem Balague.

While that is a hefty fee, it could prove to be a game-changing transfer, one that edges Arsenal closer to Premier League glory.

Quality, not just injuries, held Arsenal back

Last season, one of the clearest obstacles to Arsenal’s title challenge was a blunt attack. Injuries played a part in that, but quality was also lacking, especially on the left wing.

Martinelli has struggled to recapture the brilliance he showed in 2022/23. He is no longer the dangerous threat fans once knew. Arsenal needed an upgrade, and they needed a goal machine.

In Gyokeres, Arteta now has that goal machine. Now give him the left winger he craves, and watch him turn this Arsenal side into champions.

Surely Arsenal have got to secure a left-winger before the end of the transfer window?

  1. There’s nothing new here, is there? Eze likely to go to Sp*rs, Real Madrid wanting a big fee for Rodrygo etc. Slow news day?

    1. Bertie,

I don’t know about you, but I thought that playing football can get you fatigued. But I’ve found myself being fatigued reading the same story put in I don’t know how many different ways. 🤦‍♂️🤷‍♂️🥱

    2. Nothing personal, but so much for the slow news day. Amazing how things can turn around so quickly and this time for the better. I’d love to know what has been going through Eze’s mind this week. He’s still in training and supposed to be playing in CP’s Conference League playoff against the minnow. He seems to have a strong character to go along with his on pitch efforts.

      1. True, you never know. That’s life – and football.

Clearly the whole situation has changed because of Havertz as the BBC is reporting Arsenal are moving quickly now for Eze. After weeks (although it seems longer) of “He will, he won’t” it looks like he will after all.

  2. David Ornstein just reporting Arsenal closing in on Eze because Haverz injury. Spurs close to Eze deal too but Eze preferring Arsenal.

Nothing 100% yet but what a turn around – yet again!!
