I’m pretty sure all of us would’ve been anxious about the fitness of Declan Rice after it was revealed before the Inter game that he wouldn’t be making the trip to Milan with the rest of the squad.
Our worst fears were that he was another major injury casualty in a long list of players already this campaign and though it was confirmed to be an injury problem, we will be happy to know that it’s something minor and he can yet feature against Chelsea at the weekend.
The injury that kept him out was actually a toe fracture which he picked up during the Newcastle game last weekend, we didn’t miss him too much against Inter despite losing, however we’ll definitely need him for the weekend where we’ll be hoping to get back to winning ways against a Chelsea side that has been very impressive this season.
Declan Rice himself is reportedly willingly to play through the pain just to be able to feature however considering he couldn’t even put on a boot earlier this week then one has to consider whether it’s actually worth the risk.
Injuries have plagued us this season, risking him might potentially exacerbate this rather minor injury to something that might see him out for a while. Losing him for weeks will be a big blow to us for the rest of the campaign.
We should have Merino and Ødegaard in the side on Sunday which should make up for his potentially huge absence. But if he does start then who am I to complain? Especially if we come out victorious heading into the international break.
I know it may be over-panicking from my end but what are your thoughts on this gooners?

Let him rest
If he misses this one he can pull out the England games too
We brought in a replacement for this scenario in Merino but I doubt Edu will get any credit for it unless Merino performs and we start to win games
Doesn’t sound like a good idea playing football with a broken toe.
This game is vital and I think we need to pull out all the stops and take risks. City have lost and it’s a golden chance to gain some ground. Sure, Liverpool are ahead but I am sure they will slip up.
