Three goals in four games, Viktor Gyökeres hasn’t made a bad start to life as an Arsenal player.
The Swede may, after all, be exactly who Arsenal were told he was. After racking up a staggering 97 goals across two seasons with Sporting CP, the best way to describe him is simple: a goal-scoring monster.
Neville Has His Doubts
Gary Neville agrees Arsenal now have a striker who will deliver goals. But while he is confident Gyökeres can hit the 20-goal mark, he has echoed Troy Deeney’s concerns about the forward’s impact in big games.
“I think the best defenders might handle him – we’ll see. But I think he’ll beat up smaller teams for Arsenal,” Neville said onThe Gary Neville Podcast.
“That’s not a bad thing. Scoring loads of goals and getting 20 this season, which he could do, doesn’t necessarily have to be against the big teams.”
Gyökeres failed to shine against Manchester United and Liverpool, and a narrative is beginning to form. Gooners may be left frustrated by their No. 14 in big games, as he would go missing.
However, considering how cautious Arsenal were in those matches, playing with the handbrake on rather than showing bravery, it is obvious that Gyökeres was starved of chances. And without service, even the most lethal striker struggles to make an impact.
Arsenal Must Play to Gyökeres’ Strengths
If Arteta is bold enough to let Arsenal play without the handbrake against top sides, Gyökeres might prove he can punish the elite as ruthlessly as he does the rest.
It is the kind of game Gyökeres needs to own, a performance that silences the doubters and reminds everyone why Arsenal brought him.
It would be good to see Gyokeres silence his doubters. 3 goals in 4 games is not a bad return in my opinion, particularly given Arsenal’s very tough fixtures at the start of the season – never mind that Arsenal are in the process of integrating 8 new summer-signings into the squad, including Gyokeres.

He gives us something we hvent had in a striker since maybe Auba? He makes runs, is constant threat with his pace, seems like a great poacher. His goal against Leeds was the type of goal we havent seen for awhile.
Lets not forget our wingers are notorious for scoring, also defenders, so wont need a +30 goals striker. We need a threat!

And yet they themselves say wait until after 10 games to see how the teams are faring. So that’s the time to reflect
2 away games to Man Utd and Liverpool where he had virtually no servixe and no chances .against two home games against mid to lower table teams where he has scored 3 goals
So a good start and let’s see both after 10 games and also end of season

Yes, it isn’t Gyokores that needs to change, its the way we use, or don’t use him that is the key.
Something tells me it’ll be Gyokeres rather than you know who that will get the credit if he does well going forward. Or will it at least be both?

Why do you mention that Arsenal played “without bravery” and “with a handbrake” on?? Why don’t we see people question the HOME team?? We had more chances in the offensive end than did Liverpool, we had more touches in the offensive penalty box than did Liverpool. This narrative is simply not true. Were we cautious – sure but we’re on the road at the defending champions. Obviously you have not played any level of competitive football.
It was always going to happen wasn’t it. Having scored a double against Leeds and one against Forest. You’ve got the old flat track bully quotes coming out.
Yes he hasn’t performed against United or Liverpool, but looking back on those games Arsenal barely laid a glove on them going forward did they.
The time to judge Gyokeres against the so called big boys is when we play them at home or away, and depending how much freedom Arteta is willing to give the team, which in turn will hopefully help Gyokeres out regarding his performances against the said big teams.
He does look a little slow in PL
Compared to the Portuguese league .
It doesn’t matter if he’s our second game ,
Arteta’s refusal to play a proper 10 in nwaneri is slowing the team down and gyokeres is suffering
If he can be having the kind of team he had in forest game when nwaneri came in then gyokeres will score alot.
Arteta is no hero today, he’s too defensive, he’s also shutting down nwaneri and super max out
