Report says Aston Villa are Arsenal’s biggest rivals for Zirkzee

Joshua Zirkzee’s transfer to Arsenal has just received a massive boost, reports from Italy are reporting that the striker may now have to choose between Arsenal and Aston Villa this summer.

Bologna, currently fourth in Serie A, will undoubtedly not be where they are without Zirkzee’s commitment to giving his all on the pitch for them.

The Dutchman’s brilliance astounds many. He stands out for his unconventional approach to spearheading Thiago Motta’s attack; he plays like a false nine — as technically gifted as he is, he drops to midfield to link up play before racing to be the target man, or he simply plays the ball and creates chances for his teammates. Despite not having the most prolific stats in front of goal (12 goals and 7 assists in 35 games), one can expect him to reach his full potential sooner rather than later.

According to Inter Live, Inter Milan, the Serie A champions, are the latest club to express interest in the 22-year-old. However, there is one issue with their transfer pursuit: the fee Bologna wants for the striker.

Apparently, the ex-Bayern Munich star is available for around £51 million. That sum is prohibitively high for Inter and the striker’s Serie A suitors.

Despite the player’s alleged desire to remain in Serie A, his high asking price could pose a challenge.
Inter Live says PL suitors, especially Arsenal and Aston Villa, may not have an issue meeting the players’ ‘hefty transfer fee’.

As a result, it will be up to the striker to decide between Arsenal and Aston Villa, where he’d like to join in the summer.

Arsenal desperately needs to improve their offense, as attackers Gabriel Jesus (who has only four league goals) and Eddie Nketiah (who has five league goals) have disappointed. Their desire to improve their attack and remain at the top should undoubtedly motivate them to win a transfer race like Zirkzee’s.

  1. Maybe Aston Villa could save us from this one.

One has to ask the question, who’s really in charge of recruitment at Arsenal.

  2. I feel if it comes down to choosing between Arsenal and Villa, he may as well choose Arsenal given Arsenal’s known factor of developing and nurturing young players. That said, I do hope ESR is kept and has a larger role to play next season.

  3. Zirkzee is not the answer to our striker problem, not good enough in front of goal.

I said before I doubt a top striker is coming in. Havertz will be the first choice, and any addition will be backup.

Zirkzee, Sesko, Gimenez, this is the level of our Summer business for striker.

I don’t see Arteta chasing a 20-25 goal striker because it doesn’t fit his system.

Arteta gets players who fit into his system, he is a system guy like Pep, not one who gives players freedom. It’s fine it’s his way and he is proving to be successful with it.

    1. i agree, but also disagree

in that i don’t think Edu/Arteta see Arsenal having a ‘striker problem’

Zirkzee and/or Sesko, I see those two as only ones under Edu/Arteta consideration right now (they would love Isak but too expensive) as it is not traditional striker but a centre forward that can play across the front three, drop deep and create opportunities for others with movement and assists

Toney, Osihmen, Gryokese don’t fit the profile and twice the price

so I think, probably disappointingly for you and others, that big name target man out-and-out striker is not coming this summer

      1. Yes it would be disappointing for me not to bring in a top scorer. If Arteta/Edu just want to spread the ball around and share, then just bring in a B2B midfielder.

Better technically, better defensively, great at creating chances, and can be effective both in attack and defense.

IMHO, either bring in a scorer, or don’t. Zirkzee is not a midfielder and not a finisher, so why spend such a sum on him? Better to play with two 10’s than a “striker” who isn’t a finisher.
