Time for Arsenal to unleash Ozil in number 10 role?

Despite the fact that the terrible run of luck that Arsenal have had to cope with for well over a year now still shows no real sign of going away, at least Arsene Wenger now has a stronger squad to choose from. Even though it looks highly unlikely that the boss will be able to call on the awesome Alexis Sanchez, the attacking side of our team should still be pretty fearsome.

And the way that the visitors to the Emirates in the FA cup have been playing, it is just as well. It looks like it will be vital for the whole Gunners team to play well and the defensive side must be solid as it could be a real nightmare if Middlesborough get their noses in front.

But being at home gives Arsenal the best chance and the onus must be on us to break down their resistance, which means that we need our attack to be really on the ball. So I wonder if it is time to bring Mesut Ozil back into his favoured central role.

I am not suggesting that Santi Cazorla has not doe great stuff there this season, but if both are on form, Ozil should carry that bit of extra quality to spot an opening and execute the move. It is going to be tight and the game could be decided on one moment of genius.

And the German should be full of confidence after his impressive games in the wide forward position, so now might be the perfect time to put him in the middle. It would also allow Wenger to play Welbeck, Walcott and Giroud as a very pacy and powerful front three that can make the most of Ozil’s skills.

Is it number 10 time for Ozil?

  1. Ozil and Cazorla share the role.
Santi has played a lot while Ozil
was injured. He needs a break.
With 2 games a week now
being able to rotate players is good.
Yes Ozil at 10 for this game
then rotate v Palace and again v Monaco.
The one not playing is on the bench so always available.
    Logical use of resouces.

  2. Could you imagine arsenal, with both santi and mesut operating at a full 100% form? That would be devasting! Coyg!

  3. You don’t seem to understand. Maybe on the team sheet Ozil is in the LW position, but if you watch the games, he drifts in and out of spaces throughout the attack. Our system is very fluid, allowing us to have many creative players sharing the attacking positions. So in a way, Ozil is already in his preferred position, and he’s providing!

    1. Browsing with my phone, hit the down instead of up, sorry 🙂

I completely agree with you, and was looking for this exact comment

  4. Of course he should be in the #10 spot, he has been delivering the goods since his return.
He is simply a great player but some fans don’t have a good enough grasp of football to understand that a player can go about his work without falling over and making useless flashy runs.
