Confirmed Arsenal team to take on Liverpool with Laca returning to the XI

The teams are out ahead of tonight’s clash between Arsenal and Liverpool with around a hour left until kick-off.

The Gunners will be looking to maintain their positive run of results over the Reds of late. The Merseyside club come to the Emirates knowing they haven’t won here in five years, and with the knowledge that Arsenal have already beaten them twice this season. The visitors also only have two wins in their last 20 trips.

Both of our wins came when they were an in-form side, whereas their results in 2021 are on par with those battling relegation picking up just 13 points from 12 outings.

Form will count for nothing tonight however, and Arsenal will need to be fully concentrated on the job as hand as we know our opponents are better than they are showing.

Liverpool are still showing their true potential in Europe having earned their place in the last eight of the Champions League, and Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta will be making sure his side do not take anything for granted this evening.

One player Arsenal will need to keep an eye on is Bobby Firmino who is returning to the squad, knowing that his goalscoring record against us.

Just one player off our earlier team prediction found here.

Is this the XI that will see us continue our strong run of home results against Liverpool?

  1. Really pathetic a couple of youngsters playing at CB for liverpool and we have made them look so comfortable it’s embarrassing! One of the worst performances I’ve seen in a long time, I think Arteta is completely out of his depth.

    1. your thinking would be accurate. it has been a pathetic season. this is just another pathetic display out of the many we’ve seen this season. Emery was better and I’m tired of hearing otherwise. I don’t see the logic in people who wanted Emery gone and now want Arteta to stay.

      1. Yeah mate I don’t see that logic either I’ve turned that crap off I ain’t watching anymore of it.

    2. This match has shown that may be Arteta has hit his ceiling. This might be the best he can do.

      No good enough.

    3. Probably the best team he could pick, which says it all.

30 players have left the club since Wenger was sacked only 7 of his signings are left, yet the rebuilding job is still being discussed. Shut up and admit, you simply are out of your depth.

  2. Arteta is a dead man crawling … to may deadline when he needs to be moved on … a clueless manager

    1. stop trying to make arteta out vs arteta in a thing. it’s not really a thing. The managers not good enough and that is just that. You don’t want to admit the truth because you’ve drawn battle lines in your head and are being stubborn.

      1. Don’t mind then RSH I think he’s in love with Arteta all the Arteta in boys are nothing but sentimental. Honestly I have been crying Arteta out since the start of this season. I just can’t see any idea good in him. He’s completely out.

      2. Could have said it any better…He had been a vocal proponent for Arteta..even though he knows we are utterly shit with Arteta he doesn’t have the decency to admit he was wrong…Watch out for how many articles we gon get about trusting the process and how we who clearly see Arteta for what he is free not real fans

        1. nobody likes to be wrong, especially when you put a lot of faith/effort into something. But sometimes it’s easier to just admit the truth. 🤷‍♂️

      3. I’ve said for ages that if you want Arteta out then just name his successor and see how he fares under the same conditions.

        1. Impossible to replicate the circumstances of a season so somewhat pointless hypothetical. If I could name a successor it would be Nagelsmann.

          1. He’s a popular choice. So far has won nothing although a CL manager. As I say, would he do any better? He would need to be really damned good and quick as well to warrant a change of manager I’m not an apologist for Arteta but I’m trying to see the bigger picture.

    2. Didn’t take long
Can’t deny it’s been bad but it’s always the same. Lose = Arteta out. Anything else and it just goes quiet
I wasn’t confident with the line up but you can only put out fit players.

    3. Eddie, I have been supporting Arteta and enduring him since, but with the tactics and selection today please Arsenal is far far bigger than him… It is not the lose that pains me but our attitude and tactics towards the game. For every Arsenal player with the ball, you will see 2 to 3 Liverpool players surrounding him and there will be no any Arsenal player supporting his mate, also for every Liverpool player with the ball, you will see 2 to 3 Liverpool players with him, giving him options and space to pass or make a move without any Arsenal player tackling him….. I don’t even know if the team are training or not, I saw Sheffield, westbrom and Fulham teams played against Liverpool this season and I was like wow, this Liverpool team is not invisible and are not special but if it is against us, their common average player would become world best….. Sincerely, I would have been happy with the lost if we had at least put in performance of all these relegation teams I mentioned below, but we put in the worst performance so far against them in our home again..
I believe that Arteta is not the right guy for us again……

  3. Ok maybe the midfield wasn’t very good today. But what have the front 3 done to get involved with the midfield? Absolutely eff all. And that’s been the case when the pensioners (you know who all) lead Arsenal lines.

  4. If you still want Arteta at this club beyond this season..Then I seriously doubt you are an arsenal Fan…

  5. I think it is not too early to start looking for a new coach. Arteta l, I want you to succeed, but the truth is we need a more experienced coach

  6. Arteta post match “not good enough” tired didn’t start properly.. Still party has been shambolic nearly every game 45 million sold a pup

    1. Tbh he wasnt the worst player. Atleast tried to bring the ball out to the front. Not great agreed, but one of the average performers today…

  7. The worst performance I’ve seen from Arsenal since ……….. (Fill in the year)

This is definitely a very poor performance in all ramifications. No defence. No midfield. No attack. Can’t complete 2 passes.

I keep reading that Arteta wants the players in ‘his own way’ ….it’s been over a year, how long will it take for the players to learn that ‘his way’?

Honestly, I think Arsenal is no longer a top team. We are where we deserve. Lack of foresight and vociferous fans has led us where we are.

  8. Too many players way out of there depth including the manager, time for a change game over for some players embarrassing and cheating the fans no heart no passion no clue cowards to a man I’m so so annoyed but this gutless display. I shall wait for someone to try and defend this crap

  9. How humiliating was that? Switched off the telly after the 3rd goal. What a team of retards. Despicable. So ashamed to have stayed up to watch that foolish display

      1. My God I’m so mad I’m glowing! Our players have such a loser mentality. So weak willed. No spine. Can’t even PASS A BALL!! WHAT WAS THAT!? CHRIST!!!!!!

        1. That was what we call here a sh#t show mate! Absolutely pathetic, embarrassment! I’ve been calm all season but I’ve had enough now.. everyone of those players should hang their head in shame and Arteta is as clueless as the players on the pitch. We can forget Europa league with this team and manager.

  10. Arsenal needs a manager…auba, willian have been champions…came to arsenal and are suddenly useless… maybe a serious owner too…Arteta out

    1. Only if they don’t watch this match, if they do they have the cause to reject Arteta. Forget the rebuild rubbish.

      1. You underestimate the magnitude of ther insincerity Tim…They’ll be out in full force to defend Arteta and his process and accuse us of hating the club and manager..
        Watch the post match review

  11. No complaints here. Arteta deserves all the negativity after this pathetic showing.
What an absolutely embarrassing performance from everyone.

  12. Martinelli should have started this match ahead of Aubameyang. The difference today was Klopp was proactive when he brought in Djota. When I saw Djota coming in, I knew it was game over.

    1. Same here mate…. I saw the tactical change from loop with jota and I knew it was game over… Our clueless manager didn’t even have the balls or skills to counter….. Pepe didn’t even swap wings, no change… God help us

A rookie manager is a rookie manager period…
EPL is reknown as a league of upsets as seen with Chelsea today… No other team would play this poorly without a fight even Sheffield Utd doesn’t…

      Am so mad right now

  13. Arteta is not a top manager and he won’t be in the next two years with the negativity in his approach towards match.

This current arsenal squad is not bad the way Arteta made it look with game plan and selection..

Arteta should just be sacked before next season.

  14. Tbh, I feel for Mikel. Everytime he looks towards that earpod man chewing gum, he gives him a shrug and a clueless look back. How good would Freddie have been? Atleast much better than Mr. Chewing gum, who looks as clueless as I when I study, lol.

  15. Well that was embarrassing!!

Just didnt work tonight at all and showed far too much respect.

Arteta has shown he is a great coach and has good man management but maybe out of his depth with the Managers Role.

We need experience to bring this youth through while getting the big guns playing.

    1. Declan- you and I along with a few others remember times like this in the mid seventies and early to mid eighties. When I see performances like tonight I feel numb. That was not how I expect a team to represent Arsenal Football Club. If someone said before the game we would get a 0-3 defeat if we went toe to toe with Liverpool I would have taken that result as long as we actually tried to attack them. What sort of performance was that? We were set up to defend from the start. We were set up to sit deep, invite them on, and hopefully catch them on the break. Pathetic. That was a gutless performance and if anyone needed proof that Arteta is clearly out of his depth then they had it spelt out to them tonight. I take it everyone took on board the comments from Gary Neville,. An embarrassment that is the end of Arteta as far as I’m concerned.

      1. Sorry to interfere Phil. It was a s**t performance and embarrassing to watch. You didn’t get involved in suggesting a new man working under the same owner in an article I penned. Potter and Nagelsman were popular. Even Benitez, who knows what it’s like to work for the English equivalent of Kroenke and he didn’t make a huge difference to Newcastle
        It is a poisoned chalice

      2. Declan and Phil, you and I have seen worse performances results wise than a 3-0 loss, but I have never seen supposedly “professional” football players show less professional and personal pride in putting in for this Club. Losing is one thing, showing no effort, pride, passion, fight and commitment to the team and the Club is another. They are lucky there are no fans in the stadium.

  16. Next season will be another mid table season for Arsenal unless they get very very lucky.
So maybe Arsenal should sell a hell lot of players in the window. Let’s be honest no senior in the team is really a great example for the youngsters. Rebuild will start once the pensioners are eliminated

  17. Where do Arsenal go from here? We’re owned by the Kroenkes, managed by Mikeal Arteta and stuck with a shit load players who are adding to the deadwood. Positives anyone?

    1. Of course not it was pitiful to watch and had there been fans at the Emirates this season arteta would be already gone but let’s wait for the grown up fans (apparently) with there articulated conversation and big words to try and make others look small which I can guarantee they were the last person picked in the playground at school and have never kicked a ball in there adulthood

  18. We need a new owner who is ready to invest and get more involved. For now, we are not making progress as a club. Alike Dangote, pls show interest for once and buy Arsenal. Kroenke and Arteta Out.

      1. Dangote Always says he wants to buy. I’m a nigerian though. He is building a refinery at the moment. lol. I just want Kroenke Out. We need a serious owner. Also, I think Edu/Arteta combo is not working. As for a new manager, I would go for Allegri.
Arteta, thanks for the the Fa Cup. The experiment is over.

  19. If fans were in the stadium, they would be booed of the pitch. It is ok to lose, but not to lose without a fight. No one was up for it from the first minute apart from Tierney and Partey, and possibly Lacazette

  20. I’ve seen enough. MA you are on borrowed time. It’s a lot harder than coaching I know and so it has proved.
The performance sucks and you are responsible for that. From 1-11 we were second best. The defence invites pressure and forwards can’t retain the ball so we have a recipe for mediocrity.

  21. The Gunners have completely failed to turn up in the game for Arsenal up to 84 minutes into the match. But why did they fail to turn up in the game as they play 2nd fidel in the match throughout?

This is bad and unacceptable! These Gunners don’t look worthy of wearing the Arsenal shirt to play for the club in the PL if their abject showing in this big game against Liverpool tonight is taken as yardstick to measure how poorly they can be for Arsenal in matches.

It is a terrible and a disgrace performance by the Gunners for Arsenal in the PL tonight.

  22. There are a few things we need to appreciate as a result of the loss:
Firstly, Arteta’s loyalty to individuals like Aubameyang is costing the team dearly.
Secondly, the haters need to accept that Xhaka is a big player for us and rarely do we win without him.
Thirdly, our youngsters Smith Role and Bukayo are very crucial to the team and we missed them greatly today.
Fourthly, Arteta’s poor player selection is counter-productive for the team. Pablo Mari should have started in the absence of Luiz because he is more experienced in big games. Auba was substituted too late when it was clear he was not doing much!
Some of us wrote off this season long ago but still Arteta needs to wake up to reality and try to limit the damage!

  23. Simple, move Arteta back to assistant manager then get a top manager..

    Everton did same with Ferguson…
    Or
Get in some ex players as assistant managers to help our clueless manager….. Since ljunberg left, we have been having issues..
Arteta is brilliant but needs time to get to the top, this shouldn’t be at a club rebuilding at all…

We can’t have 11 players play poorly to the extent of failing at the basics of football.. It shows poor management..

16 losses, 21wins since taking over.. Terrible stats
