Good point. It’s because it isn’t anything to do with the official rankings, it’s the rankings that “Goal” has constructed.
It’s not clear from the misleading article headline, or in wording of the third paragraph of the text, which is unacceptable in my opinion.
Following the link in the article to the Goal site itself, you (finally) read:
“GOAL is back again with its Champions League power rankings to let you know which sides are looking like potential winners ahead of the draw – and who could be in trouble from the get-go…”.
My understanding of the way it’s now been structured is that teams from the same pot will not necessarily avoid playing each other as a result of the draw. So there’s no advantage in being in pot one.

While we on the subject of cup draws, did anyone understand the logic behind the Carabo cup draw last night?
Why were we allotted to play away, while the spuds got a guaranteed home draw for example?
What on earth is wrong with a normal home and away situation?

Ken, I didn’t see the Carabo cup draw, but have they changed the system that was: first team out of the hat plays at home? As for home and away games, doesn’t that only take place in the semi-final?
