Gabriel Jesus update: Arsenal striker set for September comeback

Gabriel Jesus has been sidelined for seven months, but his latest social media activity suggests he is closing in on a full recovery. The Brazilian forward has missed the entirety of 2025 through injury, after suffering an ACL problem against Manchester United back in January.

His injury at the time could not have come at a worse moment, given he was on a run of form. Subsequent setbacks during that period also created a crisis, especially in the forward areas. Arsenal failed to address the issue in January, but fast forward a few months later and the Gunners now have far more depth after significant investment in the summer. Even so, Jesus remains an important player, which is why supporters will be encouraged by the latest update.

Training ground progress

The former Manchester City striker is now back training on the grass and, most importantly, with the ball. He posted a clip of himself during a solo training session at the Sobha Realty Training Centre, accompanied by a heartfelt Instagram caption: “It’s been seven months of pain, uncertainty, and anxiety. Today, I finally feel light – like a child playing football again. God is great!”

Injuries have plagued him throughout his Arsenal career, with his misfortune beginning at the last World Cup. Since then, his form has dipped and he has struggled for rhythm. That said, he will be determined to come back stronger and fight for his place in the starting line-up. Due to the severity of his injury and the lengthy time out, Arsenal are expected to proceed with caution over his reintegration. A realistic return could come towards the end of September.

Arsenal’s injury concerns

As Jesus edges closer to fitness, Arsenal are managing issues elsewhere. Martin Ødegaard and Bukayo Saka both picked up injuries against Leeds United, while Christian Nørgaard, Kai Havertz and Ben White were unavailable. It is still very early in the season, but considering the setbacks endured in the previous campaign, Mikel Arteta will be concerned about another growing injury list.

Jesus’ return would provide a huge boost, but there remains a bigger question: does he still have a long-term future with the Gunners?

  1. I don’t see him playing much of a role with Arsenal going forward, especially after the signings we have made.

I think we will have to try get him off the books. I think we will make a big loss here, but it is what it is.

  2. I can’t believe Gabriel’s only 28. He seems to have been around for ages, but now he should be in his prime. All that time he’s lost.

  3. I’m glad he’s recovering, but the question remains how long it will be before he’s injured again.

Also, even if fully fit, how is he going to fit into the “new look” Arsenal which is markedly different from the one he played in before his last injury.

Clearly, as a striker (which he is supposed to be primarily) he’s highly unlikely to be an effective stand-in for Gyokeres. Jesus scored 3 goals in 17 EPL matches last season. Although it’s the earliest of early days yet, Gyokeres has 2 in 2 EPL matches already this season.

  4. He was a great player when he was on form and linked up very well with Martinelli. With Jesus coming back, together with our new signings, we can be unpredictable in attack. I’m excited about this season. 💪❤️🤍

  5. We will need him. Great to have come off the bench and can start if we have injuries
Just hope Jesus can avoid further pain injuries

  6. Good to see him back on the training ground. His future is wide, not as a central striker. The day he and Mikel realize it, the better for the team. We are in 4 tournaments, so yes he has a role to play for us this season. Mikel can use him wisely, manage his minutes. Gabs, Trossad, Kai are good impact players off the bench, they are here to stay for the season, with their inflated wages it will be hard to offload them, so better use them and manage all players fatigue well.

  7. Sell him in January

Don’t play him again else he might get injured during warm-up

  8. Tragic, it’s always sad when talented players like this get their career derailed with injuries.
We’ve had too many honestly. Wilshere, Eduardo, Wallcott and saddest of them all Diaby

  9. I will always have jesus in my team coz when fit he’s a menace although his injury record can be frustrating but he deserves to be kept for one more season

His fate should be decided at the end of the current season and not in january

    1. Fair enough, but a “menace” in what way? I ask because it’s not goals or assists, based on last season anyway.

  10. He will not get minutes now, he must be sold. We will not get a kings ramsom but 20 mil would be great. But IF he stays fit (big if) it obviously won’t be while January. When probably would be the best time to sell him.

    1. Agree Grandad. Especially in a season when you are expected to be so close to the title, any player with the special skills of Jesus can be the difference maker at just the right time.

    2. Not as a striker? He has already proved, he is NOT a striker. I don’t think Jesus is second choice now in ANY position. He is 3rd or 4th.

      1. Reggie, I get your point, but Jesus brings that Brazilian flair to the club. You have Odegaard in the middle showing his skill, while Jesus operates ahead of him mesmerizing the opponent’s backline. That’s what Arsenal needs and stands for. Arsenal is best when they play with flair and speed. I want Jesus anyday in that team…

  11. I’m glad we still have Jesus. He was looking really sharp just before his injury and I hope he can get back to that level,or better. I’ve watched football for years and there are not many players I’ve seen play false nine better than Jesus- only Messi comes to mind and maybe Dembele last season.

He is the archetypal false nine. There are games where the conventional number nine won’t work and these are the games you call on a false nine. It’s great to have both options now.

A time will come when we’ll be playing three games a week. We can easily field three different CF for each game. That’s the only way you can win a double and dare I say, a treble.

  12. People forget, while Jesus wasn’t producing in limited appearances off the bench early last season, just before Christmas he hit that hattrick against Palace in the league cup, 2 more against Palace in the league, then 1 against Brentford on New Years and it seemed like we had our starting striker again just when we needed him. And then he did his ACL.

Unless we’re desperate, Jesus will return through similar cup games and limited appearances off the bench, but if he can once again find a purple patch it would be terrific as the interchanging attacking look with Jesus, Saka and Martinelli was very strong and gives us something different to either Gyokeres or Havertz. I’m sure it would work just as well with say Eze in place of Martinelli too,

  13. I am excited by the prospect that Jesus will return to the field soon. People are writing him but forget that it was his inclusion together with Zinchenko who changed Arsenal around. He was devastating in his 1st year at Arsenal, only overshadowed by Haaland’s goalscoring record. I strongly believe Jesus still has a lot to offer Arsenal moving forward. Arteta, you will be making a big mistake if you think you want Jesus to perform then sell him to maximize on revenue. Martinelli needs Jesus, coupled with Calafiori, that’s an atom bomb right there.
