Liverpool could deal Arsenal a major transfer blow if they press ahead with one bold pursuit.
While the Reds’ anticipated move for Alexander Isak already stings, given Arsenal’s long-standing admiration for the Swedish striker, there is a deeper concern brewing at the Emirates.
Unable to match Isak’s price tag, Arsenal are thought to be plotting a response: a move for Eberechi Eze.
At the Emirates, the belief is clear. If Arsenal land Eze, they will boast an attack to rival Liverpool’s with Isak.
A move for Eze is expected, just as Liverpool edge closer to Isak. But Arsenal are struggling to close the deal.
Unwilling to pay the playmaker’s £68 million release clause (which expired on Friday, 1st August), the Gunners are hoping to negotiate a more modest fee with Crystal Palace. First, though, they aim to raise funds through player sales.
Guéhi move could complicate Eze deal
While Arsenal take their time, Liverpool have emerged as contenders for another Palace star, defender Marc Guéhi.
According to the Liverpool Echo, Palace may resist letting both Guéhi and Eze leave this summer.
“Should Guéhi leave Selhurst Park – possibly for Liverpool – before a deal for Eze is finalised, Arsenal might hit a snag. The expectation is that Palace would be reluctant to let both key players go, potentially complicating any move for Eze if that takes more time.”
Next week could define Arsenal’s Eze pursuit
With the new season about two weeks away, there is weight to this theory. The coming week, ahead of the Community Shield, could prove decisive in Arsenal’s pursuit of Eze.
Liverpool may look to wrap up the Guéhi deal before facing Palace in the Premier League curtain-raiser.
Guéhi’s £40 million valuation remains a sticking point, but with free agency looming next summer, Palace may be forced to compromise. Yet before that happens, Arsenal will hope to have already secured Eze.
As formidable as Liverpool are, it would be a bitter pill to swallow for Gooners if they not only land Isak, but also indirectly block Arteta from securing the final piece of his attacking puzzle – one that was glaringly absent in the north London derby defeat in Hong Kong.

I think we’ll get him. Just wondering why Liverpool are prioritizing attack (wrong spot in attack too) when central midfield and central defence craves as much? Not writing them off but they are now the least of my worries in our title challenge. City and Chelsea in that order.
I hope (for Arsenal’s sake) that you’re right about Liverpool. That said, I don’t recall many people gave them much of a chance this time last season having just lost their successful coach. I wouldn’t write them off though.
If they do remain a threat, then Arsenal will probably have to contend with three other teams (along with City and Chelsea) – not ideal, and certainly not the two horse-races that we’ve had for the previous three seasons.
If Arsenal are serious about Eze, I suggest they get a wriggle on. Time is of the essence as they say.
Liverpool have won it under under a new manager, but it was the aging bones of Klopp side that made the broth, not anything fresh. In my book Liverpool have consistently paid over the top for some unconvincing ingredients in this window, now they are saying hello to fresh they seem strange decisions. Over £100M to bring a stickman to worlds most physical league. A lot of money on inconsistent and unproven Etike. They bid £110M for a proven fragile player at Newcastle who’s always missed lots of games – instead of edging towards him they have now ended the Isak chase as its too much money to invest in a croc, transfer driven only by Isak’s entourage now. Guéhi has never convinced me he will learn to cut the errors out and not make the same mistakes season after season, are Liverpool really going to pay more than £40M for him? Obviously the proof of any cake is in the eating, but this Liverpool business smells funny that is why I am closing the doors and windows if I am them.
