Jack Wilshere is poised to return to a coaching role within the Arsenal academy, following an unsuccessful search for employment in recent months. The former midfielder has remained committed to pursuing a career in coaching and is now in discussions to rejoin the club where he first made his name.

Wilshere Set for Return After Norwich Spell

Wilshere previously led Arsenal’s Under-18 side to the final of the FA Youth Cup two years ago, earning praise for his work in developing young talent. His coaching career then took him to Norwich City, where he took charge of their youth team on an interim basis towards the end of last season. However, despite his efforts, he was not offered the role on a permanent basis.

Since then, Wilshere has been actively seeking new opportunities in coaching, though no suitable position has materialised. According to Football Insider, talks have now been held regarding a possible return to Arsenal, and the club appears open to welcoming him back into the academy structure.

Arsenal Values Wilshere’s Influence on Youth Talent

During his first spell in the Arsenal academy, Wilshere was credited with playing a key role in the development of several promising players, including Ethan Nwaneri and Myles Lewis-Skelly. His approach to youth coaching and familiarity with the club’s values made him a respected figure among staff and players alike.

Arsenal have placed significant emphasis on youth development in recent seasons, continuing to invest in both infrastructure and coaching personnel. The club is determined to ensure that its most talented young players receive the highest standard of guidance, and Wilshere’s return would align with that objective.

His previous success as a youth coach, coupled with his deep understanding of the club’s ethos, makes him a strong candidate to once again contribute to Arsenal’s academy setup. Should the talks progress positively, Wilshere could be back on the bench in the coming weeks, working to shape the next generation of Gunners talent.

  1. I know he’s an “old boy” etc., but it’s a little odd, isn’t it, that Wilshere couldn’t secure a permanent job at Norwich or, indeed, anywhere else after leaving them. I would have thought that someone, somewhere, would have jumped at the chance given his CV.

Anyway, if Wilshere does return, Arsenal will be in the unusual position of being the club of last resort in this case.

    1. I would suspect that his wages and other working conditions at the Arsenal will be much better than all but a few other clubs at the youth level. His progression in the coaching ranks certainly appears to have halted for now (reverse age descrimination? still only 33y/o) but I doubt if we were actually his last resort, at least at the under 18 level. For now, he may simply not have good enough knowledge, personality, or whatever for a higher level of coaching.

      1. Who knows? The article mentioned “Wilshere has been actively seeking new opportunities in coaching, though no suitable position has materialised.” It depends on what’s meant by “suitable” I guess, but without the possibility of an Arsenal post, I assume he’d still be unemployed.

Anyway, it’s looks like he’s back now so, hopefully, he can continue where he left off.

  2. Getting him back involved with the Academy again would be a good idea in my opinion. He knows Arsenal inside-out. And therefore he can impart his knowledge on these players trying to make there way at the club.
