Trossard v Inter Milan

Change needed – Leandro Trossard is simply not working as an Arsenal starter

If Leandro Trossard starts versus Chelsea on Sunday, Mikel Arteta would certainly be asking for trouble from the Gooners.

Trossard had his worst Arsenal perfomance on Saturday when Arsenal lost 1-0 to Newcastle. The Belgian was a spectator in that game, giving the impression that the Gunners were playing with fewer players.

Against Inter Milan, the former Brighton man once again didn’t justify his selection.

After a poor showing against Newcastle, Arsenal needed to not only improve their performance but also return to winning ways.

Anyone who watched the match would agree that they played well, particularly in the second half of the game, but their struggles in the final third did hold them back. A 1-0 loss unfairly rewarded their efforts.

Even though the referee didn’t award the Gunners a clear penalty and gave Inter Milan one for their goal, the Arsenal attack could have performed better.

Given the go-ahead to start, Trossard undoubtedly had the chance to remind Gooners of his brilliance, but that wasn’t the case. Arsenal were expected to attack the last line, attempt to win duels, and hit shots, but Trossard fails to accomplish any of these tasks.

With his experience and desire for a key role, it is so disappointing to see him fail to impact games as he should. It’s concerning that a player who was scoring goals for fun last season has only managed one goal in 14 games.

Arteta is really testing some Gooners patience; for weeks there have been calls for him to give Ethan Nwaneri a chance, and he hasn’t.

Don’t you think we would much rather gamble on Nwaneri doing that (what Trossard is doing) than whatever the 29-year-old has been doing these past few weeks?

In the match against Inter, he failed to make a shot on target, conceded possession eight times, and only made two crucial passes.

Mikel Arteta continues to play him, but each time it becomes clearer, Trossard performs better as a sub. When last has he performed as a starter?

If not Nwaneri, Arteta should consider starting Gabriel Jesus or Raheem Sterling in his line-up against Chelsea instead of Trossard.

  1. What do you all have against Trossard, can’t do anythings right. Last year he mainly scored goals as a winger and now he play more as a midfielder. Thé harsh for him.

    1. It is either the guys at justarsenal hate Trossard or they are paid to defame him. The rubbish is becoming unbearable.

      1. Hate Trossard?
        Ridiculous thing to say….
        It is very clear to all that the Belgian’s recent performances have been awful or do you not watch Arsenal games?

        1. Trossard is almost thé only one playing outside his normal position and thé others are allewed to remain in their position

  2. “If not Nwaneri, Arteta should consider starting Gabriel Jesus or Raheem Sterling in his line-up against Chelsea instead of Trossard.”

    Sterling cannot line up against Chelsea as he is on loan from them

  3. Trossard plays better when he comes in as an impact sub on the left wing.

    Havertz should remain as our striker and not drafted into the midfield.

    Nwaneri or Zinchenko should be tried in the playmaker position if our skipper is not yet available to play. Those two have the technical qualities, vision, and tempo to provide the missing cutting edge in our attacking play.

  4. Trossard- who looks as though he needs a good night’s sleep – has struggled to adjust to the circumstances of the last few weeks.

    Whether or not he was angry for lack of game time previously, I don’t know, but his performances have fallen away.

  5. The writer seems to have an agenda, like a few on here. The reason why Trossard and Haverz and Martinelli and Saka are not working is Arteta is not playing them or the team correctly. Trossard is being used, in conjunction with Haverz as two false 9s, to try and facilitate the loss of Odergaard. Well, he isn’t getting the best out of either (both not just Trossard are struggling) and that carries through to why our wings are blunt also. Please look at what is going on. Trossard needs to play Odergaards role and Haverz as a striker. Not the hybrid positions they are playing. Nobody up front knows what they should be doing. Its a cock up.

    1. Who has an agenda on Trossard Reggie?
      It’s fair to say that Odegaard’s injury – as well as others and the red cards have caused problems to the way the team operates and Trossard is one of the ones caught up in it. I’ve more than got the impression that there’s an agenda against Arteta who couldn’t have anticipated those problems occurring. He’s received virtually no leeway at all from the level of vitriol spewing forth on JA

      1. Ugh, the writer and tge admin Sue, by the looks of it for a start. There have been a few articles (one from Benjamin) alluding to the same thing. Yes, it is clear Trossard is not performing but the real reason is nobody up from, with the exception of Saka, has a clue what they are doing. And watching, neither have I.

  6. @ADMIN:
    why not ask arsenal team management to start Martinelli or Jesus as 10 let’s see what happens.
    Hate Trossard all you want – he is better than your favourites.

  7. For me Trossard seems to be suited at coming on from the bench. He may not be happy being benched, but he can’t complain about his recent game time.

    No, what he needs to do is knuckle down and start producing performances that will make it hard for his manager to ignore.

    Don’t just go around with a long face, do some thing about it Trossard.

  8. I believe the writers at justarsenal have a conspiratory mission against Trossard.
    Trossard is being sacrificed for a bang average Martinelli ( if at all he is up to that ) and an I don’t know what Jesus.
    Soon, Edu will be gone and with his weak attackers – I hope, Arsenal will be liberated.
    Trossard kept bringing consecutive match winning performances, and suddenly, gets dumped on the bench for some recuperating player who wasn’t half as good as him when fully fit – minus running up and down the pitch with eyes fixed to the ground – doing nothing but help the opponents get away from hurt when in danger.
    Match winner after match winner Trossard gets abandoned on the bench for their prejudiced favourites who can’t do shif on the left wing. It is so obvious. Rather than repent of their sins, they chose popular stooges to preach their stale gospel:
    * Trossard is better coming off the bench
    * Trossard is not a good starter
    * Trossard is weak
    * Trossard isn’t elite
    * Trossard isn’t versatile
    * Trossard isn’t arsenal quality.
    Well, I look forward to watching him play as a goal keeper . . . so you can adequately prove your point: Trossard is poor quality.

    A little questn’
    justarsenal.com
    what exactly have those who have been put in place of Trossard done wonderfully on the left wing to deserve not paying another club to clear out our rubbish since Trossard isn’t good.
