Arsenal do not have the best defence in the Premier League, in terms of goals conceded at least, with 10 going into our net so far in 10 EPL games. But that is only one more than two of our main title rivals Man City and Chelsea and three fewer than another one Liverpool.
Okay so the transfer window has closed and we Arsenal fans have had a little bit of time in which to take in all that has happened and look at things in a fairly reasonable and calm sort of way (if that is ever possible when you are a football fan).
Joel Campbell has joined Sporting Lisbon on a season-long loan deal which will come as a surprise to some Arsenal fans, but could it be part of a bigger picture?
The winger had impressed last season, and had appeared to have earned his place in the Gunners playing squad, but following the emergence of Alex Iwobi, the Costa Rican was limited to only three substitute outings in the league.
So that is that for Arsenal’s pre-season schedule, with less than a week to go before the Premier League season kicks off. Arsene Wenger and the coaching staff will be working hard with the players over the next few days to get them ready for the visit of Liverpool but I am sure that the manager already has a pretty good idea of who will be in the starting line-up for that opening match.
It might seem a bit churlish for me to question the value of this pre-season game for Arsenal, after eight goals and a clean sheet for the Gunners seems to be just what the doctor ordered as we get ever closer to the start of a crucial campaign, but I have to wonder whether a tougher test might have been better for the players in the long run.
A few days ago the Gunners Legend Sol Campbell had his say in the media about the current situation at Arsenal and the club’s managerial affairs.
As well as the young Gunners that won promotion to the top division this week, there have been some senior Arsenal stars involved in the underage side this season, mainly used to get their fitness and form going after an injury kept them out of action for a long spell.

One of Arsenal’s most current forgotten men seems to be Costa Rican international Joel Campbell, who despite having several bursts onto the scene this season, has never been able to hold down a starting role for the club. The issue is that, it is not necessarily the winger’s performances that have kept him out the team, but instead according to some fans, there is some form of rift he seems to have with the manager.
